I've always liked this story. It's a good reminder to those who are churchless and not involved with other Christians who are zealous for the Lord that it is easy to grow cold without other believers around you.

Thanks guys. It really is a moving story, mainly because it exemplifies how God will meet us at the level of our need, no matter where we are spiritually, if we only we are open to Him. I also love the way the Lord was able to use the Pastor without him uttering a word. All it took was for both the Pastor and the man to listen to the Spirit--a lesson for us all.

The 'fire' of the Holy Spirit does not depend on fellowship with one another...quite the contrary...
1Jn_1:7 But if we live in the light---just as He is in the light---THEN we have fellowship with one another...
See John in the wilderness - was he "slipping away from the Lord" for lack of the warmth of fellowship?
Read how Watchman Nee spent 20 years in a prison cell - should his flame for the Lord have become a cold ember?
If fellowship is the source feeding our fire, we are as good as cold already.

I think you're missing the point of the story: the Lord using a particular person to reach another with what they needed, when they needed it. And I beg to differ with you. There will be times when the circumstances dictate that the individual needs to continue his/her walk with the Lord without any earthly fellowship. I would say, however, that the Scriptures clearly demonstrate that where possible that we should seek out and maintain fellowship with other Christians. The above verses are only one example in many.

I registered for this board because of this story. I am that coal. When I read this that's all I could say over and over and over. I am a cold coal. I desperately need someone to help me come back. I haven't been to church in years, and now I'm not well and have horrible mornings so I rarely even get out til evening if then. I have fibromyalgia and muscular and skeletal problems and consequently depressed.
I just want to FEEL something. Do I NEED to feel something?
I don't know if I'm posting in the right place for this, but I know I'm on the right website for this. I made so many typos trying to register that I know something was trying to keep me out.

Sounds like you need to find a new church, my friend. A church without love is like a body without a soul, a light bulb without electricity, or a car without an engine: the physicality is there, but the functionality is not. There is therefore, no purpose being served.

I can relate. I have searched for G-d in every moment in my life, good or bad. I believe a rightios creater can't make a faild creation. He said it was "good". My perseption is the only thing that can be rong. Yet I am in the most hopeless time in my life.

I am 38 and I have spent 15 years of my life alone, in prayer. Does this make me wize or just lonely? I am asking, becouse I have nothing but hope in my own death. Those who hold your life will lose it, but those who lose it in my name shall never die.
