A 18 year-old male killed a 18 year old female and wounded eight others, two critically including a young police officer, in a shooting incident about 2 am today (local time) in Hyvinkää, southern Finland. YLE, the Finnish national broadcaster, reported about a hour prior to this post that a second person - a 18 year old male - had subsequently died from their injuries. Reports indicate that he had at least two weapons and that he fired - apparently randomly - from a low rooftop. The shooter fled the scene and was arrested a few hours later without a struggle.
In this little country of about 5 million where it often feels (and is often true) that everyone knows everyone else, this is truly upsetting, especially as these incidents have been increasing in recent years.
Please pray for the bereaved and the injured, for the officials and medics involved, for the perpetrator; and for the Finns that they might turn to the Lord.
