Couple splits over 550 house cats

Wife was willing to lose husband, but not her pets


A man from southern Israel divorced his wife this week because she had brought 550 cats into their home.

The husband, apparently not a cat lover, told the Rabbinical Court in Beersheba that he was unable to sleep in his bedroom because the surface of the marital bed was constantly covered with cats who refused to lie on the floor.

The man, in his divorce request, complained that the cats also blocked his access to the bathroom and did not allow him to prepare meals in the kitchen, the Hebrew daily Maariv reported Wednesday. When he sat to eat, cats jumped onto the table and stole his food.

The couple attempted reconciliation at the behest of the rabbinical court. The wife, however, was unable to part from her cats… and preferred to part from her husband.

Sounds like my sister, but she only picked up 9 strays. Her husband was threatening to leave her too!

My mother is a cat hoarder, as well as objects. She had over 50 cats at one time, but now has 24.

Below is an excerp that gives one reason why people hoard:

People often choose the comfort of stuff over relationships because relationships can be scary. People can reject you. People are sometimes critical and judgmental. That is, until your stuff chokes the life out of you."

Do you know what amazes me most about this? Someone was able to count 550 (with assumed accuracy) cats as they scurried around the house blocking bathrooms and stealing food. Amazing.
If it were me, I'd have lost track of the first 275 while I counted the second.

I kinda chuckled when I read the OP. In all honesty, if I had the financial means, who knows how many 75+gal aquariums I'd have with large single cichlids of various types swimming around in them. At one point about 8 years ago, I was running 4 tanks. Cats........I'd have 1 or 2. They make great companions.

Hoarders are selfish. They are not doing the animals any favors....period. Cats, especially, are predators and can fend for themselves. Those who hoard them almost always cannot afford to care for them; consequently, they wind up on the TV looking like the imprudent folks they are.

I have an aquarium. My wife says I can upgrade when I buy her a house.
