What do you make of Neberkanezer's Dream (Moved from Bible Study)

I am intrigued my Neberkanezer's dream and the interpretation by Daniel.

I have watched may video interpretations on it But honestly I would like to make more of it. I had always looked at the OT as more of a guide to life than a historical this interpretation of the dream has me intrigued. Allot of the predictions I see today for end times and history and such use things figuratively and I think that well I can thing of hundreds of other things that could be figurative of. I see the dream with out a doubt teaching that empires rise and fall on the world until God steps in and kicks everyones a** but is it an exact history? I don't know. If it truly is a prediction of the life of the world I could see a parallel between the feet and say the United Nations.

What are your feelings on the scripture?

In my opinion the head of gold is Babylon, the arms and chest of silver is Medo Persia, the belly and thighs of bronze is the Greek Empire, and the Legs of Iron is the Roman Empire. The feet of Iron mixed with clay may be the Roman Empire in it's latter stages, or it could refer to the last day empire headed up by the Beast, the Little Horn. The stone is Christ and His Kingdom, who will receive the ends of the earth for His possession, first breaking them with a rod of iron, dashing them in pieces like a potters vessel, then afterward ruling them with a scepter of peace. He will overthrow evil and reign eternally in peace.
1 John 1:7- But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

2 Corinthians 7:1- Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Re: What do you make of Neberkanezer's Dream

Daniel uses God's universal truth to interpret the king's dream. The king give him nothing to go on in his interpretation, so Daniel must speak about something which is true in all cases.

Daniel speaks in symbols because they are universally applicable. Any great empire made of metal and clay will eventually fall when faced with a determined warrior (or warriors) of God. These warriors of God will become great a form into great mountains which will spread throughout the whole Earth. But if the whole Earth is covered in mountain, the heights of the Earth are all equally high, and it is as if there are no mountains at all. Upon this ground another empire will rise and be taken down by another "rock", whatever form that "rock" may take.

The dream is a general equation of the rise and fall of powers on Earth.

Mod Note: Moving this thread to Bible Chat where it can be discussed.
    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

Re: What do you make of Neberkanezer's Dream (Moved from Bible Study)

Notice that the dream was given to a Babylonian, not a Jew. Notice also that the interpretation was entrusted to a reliable and faithful Jew who honored God and was willing to relay the interpretation to his captor. What does that say about Daniel's good character? Notice that the dream is basically a framework illustrating world history and that the most significant aspect of the image indicates that the nation of Babylon will eventually fall to a lessor kingdom. Babylon might fall, but history will continue without it. Notice also that the kingdom for which Daniel hopes, will not appear on the earth for many years, perhaps hundreds or thousands of years after Babylon. He doesn't know but he is being ask to trust God past and beyond his own lifetime. Daniel may not be present personally to see the kingdom of God appear on earth, but he is being given the message that, indeed, it will eventually come.

What does Nebuchadnezzar get out of it? He comes to understand that Daniel's God IS God. He comes to understand that, indeed, it was God's providence, not Neb's own cunning and skill, that gained him world dominance. Daniel's God painted Neb's kingdom with gold. And Daniel's God did not attack Babylon or recapture Daniel or remove Neb from the throne. God demonstrates that Neb's rule is God's will and that everything is going according to divine providence. This, I believe, is intended to teach both Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar to have a deeper understanding of the real, true God and to respect both his grace and his holiness. By the time God is done, the Babylonians will have been given a personal encounter with the real, true God, trained to respect and honor him, and trained to understand that Daniel's God is able to affect the world beyond the borders of Palestine. This is something that the current Babylon needs to learn again, IMHO.

the image nebuchadnetser saw was a composite of teh four beasts

it is a composite with the head of an ant, the forelegs of a mantis, the midpart of a dragonfly, the hindlegs of a cricket, and the abdomen of a scorpion.

And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. 4 They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 They were not allowed to kill them but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes. 6 During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.

7 The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. 8 Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. 9 They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. 10 They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months. 11 They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon
