That would be unbelievers unless you are thinking of a different scripture than the one I have in mind.

Unbelievers subject to a second death... look at Rev 20:4.... not all believers die because of martyrdom.... to me verse 4 only speak about those who died suffering for their faith, what about those who die of natural causes??

I believe that too. Hebrews 12:1 tells us we are "compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses". It seems to me there is no other explanation.

Reynolds, I too am sorry to hear about you losing your grandmother.
    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

    GILL:

with so great a cloud of witnesses; or "martyrs", as the Old Testament saints, the instances of whose faith and patience are produced in the preceding chapter:

    Then what of eternal torment?

I can recall that there's a warning that God CAN destroy life, but it seems your line of thinking would eliminate the need of mentioning eternal torment of the soul.

No such thing. We've been there and done that before, there is even a thread about it. The wages of sin is death, burned to ashes ans ashes under soles of the righteous feet.

Then you must explain this to me,

    Matthew 25:46
These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

Unless of course there's something about eternal I'm missing.

Hmmm, do you know the difference between punishMENT and punishING?

Punishing is the act of delivering punishment. The only difference is how they each function in making a sentence.

Well said!! I don't where people get that idea from, not from the bible anyhow I don't enough too much about other religions, maybe some of them believe we become angels? We as Christians should know better.

This subject has little to do with what is now being debated on this thread, boy do threads run wild sometimes........ we should get back to the subject of this thread

We could continue this little lesson in sentence construction if it weren't for that little word that means never ending.

Suffice it to say that as of today, the punishMENT WILL be, eternal punishING.

Say it however you wish God will PUNISH the unbeliever for ETERNITY.

Your argument can only continue if I ignore eternity.

I don't believe that's how it works. God created all souls to be able to live eternally. The only way that can be interrupted is if God decides to kill/destroy a soul. Those not destroyed on judgment day are allowed to continue living. I believe the "gift of eternal life" is symbolic and is meant just to aid the understanding in terms we are used to. Receiving eternal life is actually meaning that we are promised no further chances of dying. In other words I see nothing in scripture about God changing our souls into souls that can live eternally. We already have them but if we fail on judgment day our souls can and will be destroyed. Let's pretend there was no judgment day, our souls wouldn't grow old and die someday. God created them to last forever just as they are.
