    Yes indeed. Thank you Canada, thank you Poland, thank you brave French underground, and all other brave men and women in Europe who resisted. Many lives were saved by ordinary folks caught up in extraordinary circumstances, from the Bielski brothers to Oscar Schindler. They were all brothers in a common cause to defeat evil, and prevailed.

    I feel lucky to be alive at a time when I had the opportunity to meet some people who took part in great events like D day.

    I did not know until I was grown and he was gone that my family's doctor had treated wounded on the beach at Normandy.
