We REMAIN in that purity by walking always in the very presence of God. If one does this it is impossible to sin. Otherwise we will still be sinning when we are in God's presence for all eternity.

Shall we continue to sin who are dead to sin? If we abide in Christ shall we not walk exactly as Jesus did on earth?

You really must look more closely at the power available through the sacrifice of God's own Son.
Yes, as long as we are obedient to the Light we will not sin. Nevertheless, I do not claim to have lived a sinless life since conversion, though you are correct when you say that when we confess our sins they are all washed away and we are cleansed from all unrighteousness. Additionally, We can be as free from sinning as our faith and degree of consecration to God allow and as far as we reckon ourselves alive to Christ and dead to sin. Lack of faith, lack of consecration, and spiritual immaturity is what leads to sin, so as our faith, dedication to God, and growth increases, so will our Holiness.

I do not claim to have attained perfection in my walk, but I am following after holiness as the scriptures exhort, and I am in the process of perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord.
1 John 1:7- But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

2 Corinthians 7:1- Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

born again christians will do the good works ordained for them to do
Yes, obedience to God is the evidence that we love Jesus, and the fact that we love Jesus is the evidence that we've been born again. Faith without love isnt operative ( Galatians 5:6), and faith without works is dead.

    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

You all point put a lot of stuff tht I truly believe but one thing I do not agree is that once saved we do not sin. We sin every day. We are not perfect nor will we ever but we are to not have sin in our lives. If ones gets angry or accidentally gets jealous or someone tells a white lie to protect someone from being hurt by a minor truth. Its a sin. Come on we all sin in one way or another because we are human. That does not make it alright. It means after we do something that was a sin and we did not mean to do it but god speaks to us we are to confess that sin. God loves us and we have not wondered off from him because we his children sin. Of course we must get confused with sins that are of our nature and sin from being away from god( ungodly)I do not believe one can be truly saved if they are out living un godly lives. I could go into my in depth option on that but won't right now. I did want to make sure that us gods children do not start to doubt our salvation because we sin day to day in our lives. Because god knows we do and will. Every time we get angry, jealous, envy, or tell a lie even if it's to tell the ugly kid how cute they are and in your mind you are thinking the opasit. See its a lie no matter how you look at it. And maybe there is someone on this forum who does not do any thing sinful in their life but I find it very doubtful. Only because we all fall short in the glory of god. We need to have repentance and trying to break our sinful natures. Don't you agree? Again don't get confused in this and think I am talking about living an ungodly life.

Thanks for the post Proverbs91. I do not say that we do not sin. I do not claim to not sin. I'm just saying that we don't have to sin. God provides a way of escape for every temptation, we just don't always seem to look for it. I believe that as we grow in grace and knowledge we will sin less and love more. Love will keep us from a multitude of sins.

Accepting that we are a sinners, and confessing our sins is just a simple way to be clean, just walk with God daily and that's it.

I agree with this, but we must not forget the exhortation of 2 Corinthians 7:1.

Do you have a scripture for this method of remission from sin?

Forgive me for butting in, but 1 John 1:9 does indeed teach this, although this verse is not to be isolated from 1 John 2:1 which says that the purpose of John's writing was so that we will not sin. ( sin- second aorist active subjunctive)
God not only wants to justify the sinner, He wants to sanctify the sinner as well. Salvation does not end with forgiveness. Forgiveness gets us in the door. Once we are inside with God, many other blessings should begin to manifest.

    Re: How to be/stay clean ( 1 John 1:7)

You must accept that there is no sin in Christ and then resolve to abide in Him who knew no sin. Walking according to the flesh with a trust in Jesus is pointless. If we loved Him we would obey His commandment to enter into His presence and remain there. So when we walk in the Spirit we don't sin. We cannot sin if we abide in Christ.

Can we claim to be in Christ yet not be? Very easily!! It is like walking around in the rain while putting your trust in umbrellas....without actually carrying one!!!! So the evidence of having an umbrella is not to be all wet.
