Shrug. Possibly. My bible doesn't make it a major issue.

You must know that there are degrees of heat.
So Gandhi's roasting at 400 degrees and Hitler at 4000 degrees?

Would things like adultery fit into missing the marriage mission?
    Um, adultery is a sin.

I don't know where you're going with this.
Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, and declare it on the islands from afar, and say, "He Who scattered Israel will gather them together and watch them as a shepherd his flock."

"So Gandhi's roasting at 400 degrees and Hitler at 4000 degrees?"

Kinda...but think of "heat" and "stripes" as a metaphors for degrees of shame for example.

If the eating of a fruit resulted in the death penalty, what sorer punishment awaits fornicators and adulterers.

"My bible doesn't make it a major issue."

Are you saying that your Bible/religion does not teach that the soul is immortal?

Erm, if someone is burning in hell forever, I don't think a lower temperature is going to make a difference...

The religion teaches it, sure. the bible doesn't mention it though. So we spend time focusing on what God actually told us to do.

Fenris, what is the Jewish concept of Gehenna, or the Valley of the Sons of Hinnom? I've read some stuff but I've never talked to anyone specific about it.

A smoky valley outside Jerusalem where idol worshipers performed human sacrifice.

    What's worse than hell?

Harry Truman said that telling the truth was.

I never did give anybody hell. I just told the truth and they thought it was hell.

Funny, our Bible doesn't mention it either. Wonder why our religions teach it then.

Anything about it representing future punishment. I've read, and will post a link, that Jews believed that Gehenna would last 12 months for the worst offenders.

There are three categories of men; the wholly pious and the arch-sinners are not purified, but only those between these two classes (Ab. R. N. 41). A similar view is expressed in the Babylonian Talmud, which adds that those who have sinned themselves but have not led others into sin remain for twelve months in Gehenna; "after twelve months their bodies are destroyed, their souls are burned, and the wind strews the ashes under the feet of the pious.

Religious Jews believe that after death sin must be expunged. Most souls will have a temporary stay in hell, lasting not more than 12 months.

Indeed, the rabbis taught that a person could repent even at the very gates of Gehenna (Erubin 19a).

If this is what the Jewish people taught then where did Christians get different ideas. Jesus was the only person to use the term Gehenna in a punishment contest and was talking to Jewish people?

In the NT the word translated Hell when attributed to Jesus is the word Gehenna. Jesus only used Hades in one parable. When He was warning the Jews about judgment He uses the word Gehenna. My question would be how we got to eternal conscious torment from Jesus' teaching in light of how the Jews understood Gehenna? Was Jesus correcting a wrong teaching or were the Jews correct about Gehenna?

The whole Christian backdrop is different from Judaism. There's no "right" or "wrong", it all depends what one believes. Judaism does not have "eternal damnation" or "sin as a permanent separation from God", and as a result does not need Jesus as "salvation' from sin.

To the Jew what is the fate of a non-Jew, say an Arab/Gentile?
