Kinda...but think of "heat" and "stripes" as a metaphors for degrees of shame for example.

Fenris, what is the Jewish concept of Gehenna, or the Valley of the Sons of Hinnom? I've read some stuff but I've never talked to anyone specific about it.

Anything about it representing future punishment. I've read, and will post a link, that Jews believed that Gehenna would last 12 months for the worst offenders.

Indeed, the rabbis taught that a person could repent even at the very gates of Gehenna (Erubin 19a).
If this is what the Jewish people taught then where did Christians get different ideas. Jesus was the only person to use the term Gehenna in a punishment contest and was talking to Jewish people?

In the NT the word translated Hell when attributed to Jesus is the word Gehenna. Jesus only used Hades in one parable. When He was warning the Jews about judgment He uses the word Gehenna. My question would be how we got to eternal conscious torment from Jesus' teaching in light of how the Jews understood Gehenna? Was Jesus correcting a wrong teaching or were the Jews correct about Gehenna?

The whole Christian backdrop is different from Judaism. There's no "right" or "wrong", it all depends what one believes. Judaism does not have "eternal damnation" or "sin as a permanent separation from God", and as a result does not need Jesus as "salvation' from sin.
