Determining who is a legitimate individual who is registering on your forum

I just added a new forum on to my web site. I'm wondering how you determine who is actually a legitimate user and who is just registering as someone promoting a product? I've had 9 users register, one three have posted and all of them had nothing to do with anything on my web site. When I checked their profile and followed the web site it was just some company. As big as your board is I'm sure you know the answer to this.

CAPTCHA and akismet have their place but bots still make their way onto your forum. Did you notice when you signed up here, you were asked a question instead? ... a question specific to a Christian forum. We still get spammers but we've found that works best by far. (And the questions need to be changed from time to time)
