Bad Spirits - Scared and need advice

A few days ago my priest was talking about dark spirits. He taught us about demons, about how they're trying to bring us down and keep us away from the Lord, and shared a few stories about people who got possessed and how they had to get treated by an exorcist. He told us about some tape on youtube that shows a missing teen named John Kirk. I watched it and now I can't stop thinking about it and wondering how can one prevent that sort of situation.

I'm wondering why the priest bothered so much with the evil spirits and wasn't talking about Jesus.

There's a big debate as to whether a Christian can be possessed. I personally don't believe it but I do believe in demonic oppression. I'm oppressed . . .its real to me because its happening to me. Focus on Jesus, not because I'm scared of the topic, but because that seems to be the answer to your uncertainty.

Evil spirits are real. So is Jesus Christ and the authority He has been given over all things in heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18). As Christians, evil spirits may harass us from time to time as Paul was harassed by a demon-possessed girl (Acts 16:18), and we can expect to suffer at the hands of those led by the spirit of antichrist. As Paul says:

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against authorities, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in the heavenlies. (Ephesians 6:12, VW-edition).

But do not be afraid! Jesus said this often, and it needs to be repeated. Affliction, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, and sword can't separate us from the love of God, and through all these difficulties we are conquerors through the blood of Jesus (Romans 8:35-37, loosely interpreted). It isn't just that we've been promised eternal life and justice at His second coming, He will also protect us here and now.

I've read and heard many testimonies of new Christians who were coming out of paganism or the occult, and the power of Jesus Christ was so much greater than the evil spirits they were formerly under. Offhand I remember the testimony of Roger Morneau, who was being groomed by elite satanist priests at the direction of evil spirits. This was in Montreal in the late 1940's. Concurrently he also developed a curiosity in the Bible and started intense Bible studies with a friend from work. When Morneau finally placed his faith in Christ, the satanists, aided by the undeniable power of evil spirits, planned to kill him, and his friend came to warn him. Having just read 2 Kings 6, where Elisha said, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them," Morneau was emboldened to say that if any one of the satanists tried to kill him, they themselves would be killed by the power of God. His satanist friend trembled and turned white, perhaps seeing Morneau's guardian angel. Never again was Morneau threatened by the satanists, and he became a great man of prayer.

Evil spirits will flee by the power of Jesus Christ through prayer.

The evil one seeks whom he may devour and has come to steal, kill, and destroy. *Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. The Lord is found in his word by the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Ps 22:3 kjv "But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel." The evil one and his demonic minion know in a way that we never will while in these bodies of flesh and blood; what its like to have the Lord inhabit the priases of his people since he lead the angelic host in the praise and worship of the Lord before his fall.
So when we turn to the Lord to praise and worship him, he inhabits our praises and the glory of his presence will be blinding torture to the evil spirit that is attacking you. In fact, the evil spirit will soon remember that he was to be elsewhere and will depart post haste! Remember; Resist and he will flee!!!

I can't stop thinking about it and wondering how can one prevent that sort of situation.

Keep praying and going to church. Stay away from cults. Stay away from illegal drugs. And trust Jesus.

Satan loves to instill fear in the people of God. Fear that is debilitating and makes us shake in our boots. For instance, Peter when he walked on the water to be with Jesus. He had limitless faith when he was watching Jesus, but when he started to look around he was overcome with fear that made him sink. Remember that in EVERY situation we are to bring out thoughts captive before the Lord. Not only seek God by reading His word and living as Christ lived, but allow your heart to be transformed by the renewing of your mind through the Holy Spirit, which was made possible through Jesus Christ. We serve the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords- in Him we can do ALL things. Keep seeking and fighting the thoughts of the enemy on a daily, hourly, minutely, even secondly basis. You are triumphant in Christ Jesus!! We are victorious because Our God is the victor and works ALL things for our good!! They want your spiritual death instead of a physical death. You should worry about the spiritual attack which may potentially lead you away from God instead of a physical attack.

Pray each day to God. Ask God to be with you every day and for the holy spirit to be part of your day. Ask for the covering of the blood of Jesus, ask for Gods protection.
