From what I can see, it looks like salvia or possibly delphiniums. The height would be the tell.

Looks like a form of Campanula ( hare bell ) but I could be wrong it's hard to tell without a close up of the leaves. Are they in your garden, if they are I am green with envy, just that bunch would take up the whole of my patch

I also believe they are Delphinium 'Centurion Gentian Blue'

    Blue flowers seem so rare.

They looked tall to me as well as that gorgeous color. I would have no idea of why they would have all died though. That's confusing to me. I thought delphiniums were really hardy once they got established. Any thoughts anyone?

I was looking to see if they were on the list of short-lived perennials, lasting 3 to 5 years, but didn't see anything. The nice thing is that they can be planted again!

They actually had a picture of delphiums next to short lived perennials, but didnt see it on the list.

Certainly could be a delphinium, but they are perenniel and should be pretty hardy. My dad has them flowering in his garden every year.
It is only the cynic who claims “to speak the truth” at all times and in all places to all men in the same way, but who, in fact, displays nothing but a lifeless image of the truth… He dons the halo of the fanatical devotee of truth who can make no allowance for human weaknesses; but, in fact, he is destroying the living truth between men. He wounds shame, desecrates mystery, breaks confidence, betrays the community in which he lives, and laughs arrogantly at the devastation he has wrought and at the human weakness which “cannot bear the truth”. Re: Unknown flowers

The reason for the death of this flower is due to the soil. I even had a bunch of wild roses die off and last year my wife and I FINALLY replaced some of the soil and a single rose bush we tested with last year is doing OK this year. So... gonna replace ALL the soil on that side of the house and I'd like to also plant that one blue flower back in also but nothing is salvageable since that last time I did see it was some years ago. The photos are from 07, a year later it died off.

I'll research all the suggestions so far...

    Thank you!

I moved the two photos apart so when you click on them, the 2nd one has a closer view of the leaves.

    edit: Well, maybe not

Doh, they're not campanulas, don't look much like bells at all now.
