President Barack Obama has asserted executive privilege over documents sought by a House committee investigating the botched Fast and Furious gun-running sting, according to a letter to the panel Wednesday from Deputy Attorney Gen. James Cole.


The move means the Department of Justice can withhold the documents from the House Oversight Committee, which was scheduled to consider a contempt measure Wednesday against [Attorney General Eric] Holder.

I am stunned. Really stunned. I can not believe king Obama has actually done this. This makes watergate look like jaywalking. People were murdered as a result of fast and furious, and now we have an official coverup by the POTUS.

What's changed? Oh yeah, his guy might be embarrassed. Or worse.

The point was made today that how can Holder expect to be able to hold back information after he has already released some. That seems to be a clear sign that they do not want something seen. If there is nothing wrong, why would there be any reason to hide anything? Obama also through a tizzy about Bush using executive priviledge, yet he uses it himself. There is nothing in this that is connected to the White House and there should be no reason for him to be able to use executive priviledge here.

The intent of fast and furrious was to undermine the second amendment of the Constitution is clearely an impeachable offence. Whatever Obama and Holder are hiding will show that was Obamas intent from the git go.

You are correct, Dravenhawk. That was the sole intent. Many may not remember that Hillary Clinton was also involved in the early stages of this just after the President took office.

I too remember Reagan and both Bushes using executive privlage and in the case of all three the executive privilage was used to preserve state/military secrets albeit some of it was in that grey shady area. The main difference is that the intent of Obama was to break the second ammendment by creating an artificial gun crisis and therby using executive privilage to cover his tracks. Keep in mind here that Obamas fingers are in this deep and two good agents and 200 Mexican civilians are dead because of a liberal scheme to undermine the constitution backfired horribly and in its wake is tantamount to an act of war against Mexico, treason against the American people AND the Constitution. Not only should Eric Holder be shackled and jailed but Obama should be impeached and tried for treason.
