I get to see my pre-teen crush

When I was in 7th grade, I was glued to the tv to watch The Monkees. I had such a huge crush on Mickey. AND I also had a smaller crush on Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits. So last night I made reservations to see BOTH of them in Branson, MO in September for a show. I cannot wait. I hope I can get an autograph.

Did you have a school-girl crush on anyone famous when you were that age????

Oddly enough when I was a young girl in the early seventies I was an Osmond fan. The Osmond brothers (just Jimmy, Jay and Merrill) did a final UK tour this year and I went to see them here in Aberdeen. It was lovely and I really enjoyed it, but I am so much older now and not in great health that it wasn't the same as it might have been. But I did enjoy the walk down memory lane and sang along through all the songs. I first saw the Osmond brothers live in concert in August 1972 (I think) when I was just 10 years old. To see them this last time, 40 years later, was pretty amazing.

I hope you enjoy your concert too!

How exciting!!! I had a big crush on Davy Jones and always wanted to see him, but that is no longer possible.

Enjoy the concert and tell us all about it.

Oh, I had a crush on them ALL - most especially the Monkees and the Osmonds. But, dear sisters, we can't forget about David Cassidy. I Think I Love You is STILL one of my favorite songs.

My favorites from the Monkees are Papa Gene's Blues and I'm a Believer.

I had posters of David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman and Davy Jones in my room.

I also had one of the Partridge Family albums. I still know a lot of their songs. I still watch the show.

Jayne, did you ever see Davy dance? I just love the way he danced!

My first crush was on David Cassidy too. Anytime I hear 'I Think I Love You' it takes me back to those olden days of my childhood and innocence.

I don't mean to sound old, but some of what is passing for 'music' these days is just horrid.

I just started a job this past week where I am just about twice the age (or more) of everyone else. We work in an open space and everyone is allowed to bring their ipods/iphones in to work and play their music on a docking station.

It just grieved my spirit to have to hear some of the obscenities and violence and sexual descriptions in some of this 'music'. References to homosexuality (I kissed a girl and I liked it) to bondage and masochistic sex (whips and chains excited me?) to out and out filth with repeated profanity (in particular the F word over and over)... It is everywhere and the kids of today think it is normal and acceptable.

The consciences of a generation have been seared by the media and music industry. The innocence of songs like Puppy Love, or I Think I Love You, etc... seem to have vanished.

We were very blessed to have grown up in a time when at least a little purity still existed.

So the other day I got a call that said my concert was being cancelled because apparently there was some breach of contract and the theater wasn't upholding all of the agreed to things (whatever they were).

Bummer. I had found a Monkees album at a flea market for $3 and was going to take it to get Mickey's autograph. Jeepers!

P.S. I Love Love Love "I think I love you" --- never get tired of hearing it.

Wow, I'm sorry. That's got to be a huge disappointment.

Re: I get to see my pre-teen crush

You know, the Monkees are actually going to be touring with Mike Nesmith later this year. Now THAT is a show I would LOVE to see. I find Mike Nesmith fascinating, and I had a HUGE crush on Peter. He was so cute and funny.

Anyhow, pre-teen crushes? I know that when I was in high school I used to watch Remington Steele because Pierce Brosnan was on it. I was crazy about him!!
