Who are the Nephilim or what are they?

nephilim is usually said to trace back to the root ph-l which literally means 'fall'.
I suspect that it actually traces back to n-ph or n-b (sprout, shoot. When you chop down a tree its stump shoots up shoots)

Actually, I think that if knowledge of them was important, the bible would have told us more about them.

They could be the descendants of Seth and Cain. I don't the bible would call fallen angels sons of God.

Believe it or not, but satan and his demons are all Heavenly beings. Heaven use to be their home until they were evicted from Heaven.
