    Home-Grown Proverbs.....

Got any proverbs you grew up hearing people in your community say? Got any of your own? Here's a few that aren't mine, but I surely do like them and there surely are some good sermons in them.

"When the hoot owl shows up at the mouse picnic ...... well, he ain't there for sack races!"

"Patience is indeed a virtue, but has never helped a rooster lay an egg."

"It's hard to soar like an eagle when you are surrounded by a bunch of dodo birds!"
    ".....it's your nickel"

    Why be normal?
    ......
It is only the cynic who claims “to speak the truth” at all times and in all places to all men in the same way, but who, in fact, displays nothing but a lifeless image of the truth… He dons the halo of the fanatical devotee of truth who can make no allowance for human weaknesses; but, in fact, he is destroying the living truth between men. He wounds shame, desecrates mystery, breaks confidence, betrays the community in which he lives, and laughs arrogantly at the devastation he has wrought and at the human weakness which “cannot bear the truth”. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in Ethics.

When you are standing behind the door, don't look for somebody else to stand there with you..
Fenris: "There are two ways to shoot an arrow into a bulls-eye You can shoot the arrow into the bulls-eye or you can shoot the arrow and paint the bulls-eye wherever it hits"

Romans 12:19 Don't seek revenge ... give place to God's wrath. For it is written "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord"

    Isa. 30:32
And every blow of the rod of punishment, which the Lord will lay on him, will be with the music of tambourines and lyres; And in battles, brandishing weapons, He will fight them

G_d was gracious He has shown favor

Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.
    C.S. Lewis

You're gonna make a difference when you lay down your life, and in complete submission to God, choose to die with Him in service to other people.

Hmmm, I heard this one the opposite way:

"Its easy to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys."

“To preserve the government we must also preserve morals. Morality rests on religion; if you destroy the foundation, the superstructure must fall. When the public mind becomes vitiated and corrupt, laws are a nullity and constitutions are waste paper.” – Daniel Webster, 4th of July, 1800, Oration at Hanover, N.H.
