    Does God answer silent prayers?

Can someone be saved by asking Jesus to forgive them of sins in their mind and not pray it out loud? If the person is sincere and wants to accept Christ into their heart and just says a prayer in their mind, but doesn't say it out loud, does God answer that silent prayer?

Yes, if that couldn't happen then all folks who cannot speak would be destined for hell, and we know that untrue. It's not about the words we speak, but the state of our heart. The Father draws us, and our hearts either yield or reject His call. No words necessary.

People who are mute can't say anything aloud.

I think what the verses in Romans means is to use your ability to declare Him to others - in other words, to not deny Him. If asked by another if Jesus is their Lord and Savior, I would expect them to say , "Yes!!"

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
There is just something different about saying it out loud. .... so as if it confirms what is in your heart.

But Yes, God does hear silent prayer
Fenris: "There are two ways to shoot an arrow into a bulls-eye You can shoot the arrow into the bulls-eye or you can shoot the arrow and paint the bulls-eye wherever it hits"

Romans 12:19 Don't seek revenge ... give place to God's wrath. For it is written "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord"

    Isa. 30:32
And every blow of the rod of punishment, which the Lord will lay on him, will be with the music of tambourines and lyres; And in battles, brandishing weapons, He will fight them

It's hard to see God not answering a silent prayer. Would it make a difference if someone said it out loud in an empty room where nobody else could hear? If we accept that God knows what we need before we ask, that God knows the desires of our hearts, then it follows that God would accept a prayer of repentance whether it is spoken aloud or not.
1Jn 4:1 NKJV Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1Th 5:21-22 NKJV Test all things; hold fast what is good. (22) Abstain from every form of evil.

I don't think the issue is the "how" of ones saying to Jesus "be my Lord and Savior". Whether such prayer is silent or vocal is to me immaterial. It is what comes after - does their life confess that He is their Lord.

I would say yes. However, sometime during a believers life, they should confess to others that they believe Jesus is Christ and savior, and they have repented of their sins. My public confession was telling family, then at baptism before other believers in church. Here are some verses, why confession is important: (Mat 10:32-33; Luke 12:8-9; John 12:42-43; Rom 10:9-10; 2 John 1:7; Rev 3:5) - KJV

Thanks for all of the responses. I agree with all of you. I thought my husband got saved two weeks ago because he told me that he said the "sinners prayer" in his mind. but I havent seen a change in him. I haven't seen him read the bible or talk about Jesus at all. I'm so tired. I know God is faithful, but living with an unbeliever for so long... I'm just tired.

Re: Does God answer silent prayers?

Confession of faith in Christ actually has less to do with some sinner's prayer and more to do with achnowledgement of Jesus' lordship publicly. By their fruits you will know them. Hopefully he didn't just get fire insurance but got a hold of the actual Gospel along with things like laying down one's life and living under new management. But my husband isn't rather verbal outwardly about his faith much either, however I have certanly seen the fruit of it over the past 9 years. We have to remember that God saves people for Himself and not for us. We're just secondary beneficiaries.
    Even so, come Lord Jesus!

I hear you Dani. its just that he's still as angry as he was before two weeks ago. He's still as arrogant and loud mouthed. I WANT it to be true that he got saved two weeks ago, but I just don't see any change in him.

Oh yes of coarse I have been talking to God, praying in tears ,asking Him to give me assurance that my husband is saved.

    I don't think he's saved Dani.

It isn't only the prayer. It must be preceded by belief and by repentence. Without those, no prayer will make a change.
