    Church Evangelism

Does your church make any organized efforts towards local evangelism? If so, what?

    Re: Church Evangelism

My church has a street ministry, where a rota of members go out and share the gospel wherever it will be heard. This is a mostly weekly event, although in the height of summer, it increases. I live at the beach, so there's a big tourist attraction, so we usually make sure there are more on the rota, so that all the tourist haunts can be covered. We also rent a tent at near by festivals, when they come around. I'm pretty new to the church, and it's outreach program is what attracted me most. Sadly, I've been a member of churches who did very little in this area, so I'm very impressed with my new church!!

Yes... we use to have people rotate in going out onto the streets once a week on a Wednesday night while our pastor was holding the Wednesday night Booster Service/Prayer Service. Since we've been in a move to a new town, this has been halted for the time being.

For me, this chance to evangelize was glorious to God. The seeding and watering done did lead to some to attend services and the watering reached the point God did give growth and they accept Christ. Usually, JUST the seeding and watering was done out there on the streets and we never saw them again. Some nights more were prayed over on the streets than witnessed too, some nights a combination of both. It's however the Holy Spirit led us.

It is surprising how many who do say they "don't" have a relationship with Christ, DO WANT to receive prayer! Spiritually, it's great to see the work that the Holy Spirit does as He draws people closer to God step by step until the day there will be growth given.

Our church has an Evangelism Ministry dedicated to witnessing to the lost and ministering to those NEW in Christ. It works hand in hand with another ministry in our church which focuses on Outreach.

    Re: Church Evangelism

One of our pastors is an evangelist. Every six months we send a lot of mission teams all around the globe. This year we sent mission teams to places like Jordan, Iran and China and to Europe. I still want to go but I want to be sure where and when exactly God wants me to go.

Apart from this my church have quite a few ministries that are actively doing things in the community Also, we organize plenty of outreach events. We are in a university town, and this means that we tend to be very student focused.

One of the things that my church does that I particularly like, is where a well trained group go to trance parties and set up `n stall there, using it to minister to people who are involved there in witchcraft, drugs, etc. I get involved where I can. I am learning still. I admit I am
slightly fearful of the idea of going to random strangers, and I focus mostly on my witness and praying to God for divine opportunities.

    Re: Church Evangelism

my church has several areas of Evangelizing. Besides monthly support to several foreign missioaries, they have a street ministry, an area wide 'visitation' where whole families or three or four go house to house inviting people to church and asking, "Are you and your family involved in a church on a regular basis? Is there anything we can pray with you about before we leave?" THAT ministry has had amazing results! We also maintain a Food Pantry. We used to only give out groceries at Thanksgiving and at Christmas, but for the past 2 or 3 years, we are having to give out groceries on a regular basis! In our bulletin, we have a list of what to bring and donate weekly, as we all get our groceries. Sometimes they mainly need monetary donations for fresh things, like meat, margarine, eggs, bread, milk, etc. Other times the list may have canned fruits and vegetables. Other times they need mainly canned meats and soup. Or cereals and drink mixes, or even at times...toilet tissue, bath soap, shampoo and washing powders.

They also take up offerings for people about to have their electric turned off due to sickness or umemployment, and they do not have to go to our church! Anyone there can bring a need to the Pastor and he makes certain that need is met to to the best of our ability.
    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

Was it really? The gospels themselves (as well as Acts) may have been written to the unbelievers...but the rest is for those who profess to be with the Lord. Most of the bible is to believers. So then it follows that the primary concern of the church is for the maturing of the saints. I hold that God would rather have a few deeply devoted disciples than thousands of pew sitters. One doer is worth all the hearers combined.

You're talking about discipleship... not evangelism.

Evangelism is focused on unbelievers and the topic of this thread. Discipleship is focused on those who are believers and their maturing... the topic you are talking about.

Many of the teachings of the Gospel's ARE utilized for the discipleship of believers... but the purpose of the Gospel's is first to LEAD people to Christ. Discipleship is teaching a person to utilize the Gospels not only IN their own lives but to utilize the message of the Gospel and speak that message (Christ) into the lives of unbelievers and thus seed and water until God gives growth.

We send evangelists into the highways and byways to seek out the lost. We, personally, do this through a public café in order to rub shoulders with the lost. But the church meetings are primarily for the church. I also believe that preaching is to the lost not the brethren. The brethren are taught by both example and dialogue. No microphones required....

    Hooah!

Evangelist's preach to the lost because the lost are not sheep yet and the message of such preaching is to lead the lost to Christ. Once a person is a sheep, they fall under a pastor... who preaches discipleship to those who are NOW sheep and are in need of maturing. Also teachers... who teach in assistance of/to the preaching received from pastor's.

Agreed! (except that pastors preach discipleship) Shepherds guide the flock by personal example as they live with the flock; and they teach them through dialogue...learning to ask better questions!!!
