NIGERIA: 19 killed in Church attack in Kogi State

An evening service at the Deeper Life Bible Church in Okene in Kogi State, southern central Nigeria, was attacked by gunmen at 8:20 pm (local time) yesterday (AFP). At least 19 people, including the pastor, are reported dead (BBC). Fifteen were killed in the attack, and four subsequently died from their injuries according to the Nigerian military. Okene ‘is about 155 miles south-west of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.' (AFP). The BBC report has a map (here) showing the location of Okene.

Please pray for the healing and comforting of those injured, the bereaved, the other survivors, and all others effected. Please pray that those responsible would be brought to justice, turn to God, repent of their deeds and come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Please pray for the strengthening and protection of our Nigerian brothers and sisters in this difficult time for their nation.

So much of Africa is on the firing line with the rising Islamic militancy, and the Christians are the most obvious targets for them. In the seventies it was the communist movements in Africa, now it is Islamic Jihad for the world that is challenging our brothers and sisters in Africa. May God bless and keep them....
