    Drought in Midwest Spreads

In the Midwest of the US crops wither under the blistering heat of unrelenting 100+ degree tempetures. The drought will effect everything from the price of the gas additive ethenol to steaks to your box of corn flakes. Americas agricultural base is responsible for feeding over half the worlds population. If the drought persists over a period of several years this could have severe adverse affects on a global scale. So why so little press coverage?

Driving around here, you can see the leaves all withered up and curled in to protect themselves. Not good. My dad used to farm, so I know how stressful this can be when that's your income too. Not good for the farmers and not good for us when we have to pay for it either later on with the increase in prices. But unfortunately, that comes with farming. Can't control the climates or weather. Been praying for the farmers too.

Perhaps because the Left doesn't want us to think too much about it.

Living in southern Illinois we have felf as much as most from this drought. We have seen relief from the heat and have been back into the 80s in recent days. That does not necessarily help a corn and soy bean crop that will probably suffer greatly. I was told once that there are about 4,000 items in Walmart that corn is a part of their production in some way. The prices will really hit us some time next year and many things will go up.

We are being blessed this morning with a long soaking rain that is much needed. It will not cure the problem but will certainly go a long ways to making things better.

I believe I started seeing the first falling leaves in late June. The view around here today is much like that of late September or early October with temps now falling back to the low 60s and possibly even high 50s at night. I have told some people that I believe that fall is already upon us and that we will have a long, cold, hard winter. The people I have mentioned this to have all said that they have had several people say exactly the same thing to them. We are not prognosticators. It just seems the what we are experiencing is exactly the opposite of what has happened over the last year or so. Lats year was a mild winter. I would not be surprised to see a cold and snowy winter that starts in earnest well before Christmas.

For about a week now, we've been having relatively cool temperatures. By which I mean 80s and 90s. These have never felt so good. Then again, we did have consistent 100+ temperatures for some three months in a row. It's feeling nicer but we're still getting almost no rain! Even when the forecast calls for rain, we get a sprinkle for maybe five minutes. A few days ago, I noticed trees had started shedding their leaves, and it's only August. Weird.

Glad someone brought up the ethanol junk. Government generally (but not always) messes up when it gets involved in the market like that. Time to can the ethanol requirements. Food inflation is going even higher now. Ethanol already caused more inflation in the food industry than would have happened with it.

I started seeing leaves falling in late June. We have had leaves falling regularly for over a month now.

Our grass is brown, our trees are sagging. We've watered the garden when we needed to do so to keep the plants alive but they are sickly. Last year, we harvested ONE tomato from the entire garden - the rest of the crops were taken by people in the neighborhood because they couldn't afford groceries. I imagine we'll get one tomato again this year. Or maybe none.

The grass has been so dry and burnt up for over a month that it crunches and crumbles when you walk on it. There are many trees and shrubs that are dead. I spoke with a fellow who works with a lawn service last Friday. He said that the are expecting to have to plant a lot of grass seed next year. It is believed that a lot of the grass around here will not survive this drought. Weeds and crabgrass always seem to survive but the regular grass may have taken a major hit. The farmers pretty well knew the outcome and made their decisions over a month ago that they would have to just cut the corn for silage.

I usually have a very lush garden: this year, I will get no corn, almost nothing for beans (and everyone knows Kentucky Pole Beans can survive almost anything). Very few tomato plants survived the drought. 2 squash plants have survived. 0 on my watermelons and cantelope. My normally lush, black dirt garden is grey and old. Never mind the grass in the front yard.

But, what can you do. Not much, other then rely on God.
Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

No press because the govt. does not want to talk about agriculture. Agriculture, the farm bill in particular, is a subject that would absolutely outrage most Americans if they knew anything about it. The govt. pays farmers to not plant almost half the farm land in The U.S.A. The supply of food is intentionally held at a low level so the price will remain at a high level. At the same time, we have a true shortage of food that has driven the price up astronomically. Thank the Federal govt. for high food prices.

I got a feeling in my bones that this is the first of many long droughts.

If this doesn't convince anyone that global warming is happening, nothing will. Some might say the Dust Bowl was worse, but there was not the hot pink colors on the weather map indicating excessive heat on TV like there has been this year.

If this does not convince people that God can bring His wrath upon the people who abandon Him, I don't know what will.
