I see more negative with it than positive. I have very mixed views of FB. I guess that's part of why I go back and forth between having an account and deleting it.
Thus the reason I avoid all drama. Even when a friend or family member tags me in some "cause" or whatever, I delete it from my page unless I'm led to leave it. Believe me, I do more deleting.

The page is for me to express myself as a Christian and as a man. Thus I blog about God and scripture. I post Bible Studies I have done at church, I post my photography. I make some comments about life in general but when it comes to drama, opinions, and complaining... DELETE.

Due to this, seems I'm on FB for 5-10 minutes each day.

Yesterday I was on for about a total of 45 minutes because since this thread I made the time to organize my photo albums and post a Vid by Jason Gray.

Like I said, FB can be fun and enjoyable... WHEN you remain in control and don't allow it to control YOU.

I've had that same conflict with almost the entire Internet experience, including Christian forums, and have for years. But I've also been long-intrigued, even a bit obsessed by the challenges of providing effective, interactive witness in the virtual world - something besides the constant argument, sectarian posturing, high mindedness and confusion so common in the faith sites. And while there are no-doubt some wonderful, edifying and educational venues that I really appreciate, it's rarely they can provide fruitful interaction or outreach, though there are some.

Mediums like Facebook, while filled with bad stuff, no doubt, offer opportunies for relaxed personal contact and a means of helping myriads of folks to understand and find Christ, if perhaps one at a time.

I keep a very private profile there and use the chat, or in the case of family, the telephone, for personal folllow-up while staying on the outlook for opportunities to plant and water and till.

A ripe harvest ready for reaping, perhaps, haha.

I think on Facebook people shouldn't be "friends". They should be labeled as "electronic acquaintances". At least that should be an option. I guess you could call true friends a friend.

The majority of people I am "friends" with are people I know from the past, as well as my family members.

Then there are those who I don't know at all. In fact I wonder who some of them are.

It was through facebook that my husband found a sister he never even knew about, or she found him rather. Their mother had put her up for adoption before he was even born. That was almost three years ago, and I am so grateful for the relationship we have with her now.

I usually ignore friend requests unless I know something about who they're coming from, because they gain access to conversations with your famly and their images if you limit your page to friends only. I once blocked a friend request from someone I built rhamshacke cabins with and ran around with at 10 yrs of age. Hurt his feelings, ha. He noticed me while he was laptopping in his engineering firm. He was in a group with my brother who was in the Air Force.

Friends of friends makes up the list of folks I don't really know.

I cancelled my facebook about 6(?) months ago...
I used it for evangelism but was really bothered by posts, especially from family members, which were backward and ungodly.

I delete any such posts on my FB when friends post carnally. I've also unfriended many as well.

If I have a new boat and friends abuse it... am I gonna get rid of my boat?

Nope... I make the abusers stop and if needed, not allow them onto the boat, ever.

    Re: How About That Facebook...?

My FB account was hacked and subsequently, as a safety measure, locked. Being very careful of what I post in my account, I'm not much worried about id matters, but these invasions are largely malicious in nature and are like vandalism.

While I appreciate FB's concern for security, and it's providing a venue for families and friends, I'll make a complete turn-around here (aspiring politician) to say, as a social-site, Facebook is stifled by it's format and thus, largely brain-dead. Not much in the way of actual, progressive communication.

Like much Internet activity, a waste of time, imo.
