    Does God Still Heal?

Do you believe God can heal me(or anyone) of my physical and mental problems? Does He still cure disease or is that in the past?

Of course God still heals, why wouldn't He? It's not like He stopped being God and lost His power.

    What's troubling you?

Pretty sure you're asking for a specific reason.

Yes, if it is his will.

It is an attribute of the character of God that does not change. One of His names is Jehovah Rophi which means God my healer. I have seen many healed of some very serious diseases and illnesses that can only be classified as a miracle from God.

The book of Isaiah also speaks of the stripes that Jesus took on his back side being for our healing.

Obedience to God is more than a soldier obeying his commander. It is our grateful response to the Lover of our souls.

CHURCH: Where worship is enjoyed, not endured - Grace is preached, not legalism - And Christ is exalted, not religion!

God can heal, desires to heal, and will heal everyone. Why do we have disease and sickness? Because of sin. When he returns, he will completely conquer all the effects of sin. You could even call it the Final Healing, of physical and mental disease!

When we ask God why he doesn't heal, we are actually asking, "Why don't you heal now?" and that is the part that we have difficulty with because we don't know why. That's part of what trusting God is: knowing that he has a good reason.

My best friend went to seminary and was heavily involved with evangelism, when she became very sick with transverse myelitis and MS and other neurological conditions. She married a man who did not allow her to contact her family; he moved them out of state without letting her tell her family where they were; he withheld her medications to punish her; he drove her places and left her there to find her way home. During this time she was completely paralyzed and could only move her head. And now she's married to a pastor who cares for her..but she's still sick, and often in excruciating pain.

And she does ask God "why," and she doesn't always get a satisfying answer. But she knows he will heal her, even if it takes the death of her body's shell to bring that healing.

    Re: Does God Still Heal?

Jesus walked through the pool of Bethesda past so many in need of healing and stopped at one man and asked him if he wanted to be healed. Then he healed him. And the story seems to imply that's all that happened. From that I see that He doesn't heal everything. I know He can. He proved it over and over again. I belonged to the Vineyard church for a long time, started by John Wimber, a modern healer. The church is alive with the gift of healing. I became part of the ministry team and prayed with people and witnessed healing and also witnessed no healing. I can't explain why honestly. I just know he can so I keep asking.

Lately I have become a Theophostic Prayer Minister and we seek emotional healing from lies we believe in prayer. Over and over I see Jesus show up and deliver truth in prayer that sets people free from emotional bondage. But what I have discovered more deeply in this prayer is a deeper truth from the pool of Bethesda. Jesus asked do you WANT to be healed. Many times though people ask for healing, deep inside they do not desire the healing honestly because they don't want to give up the bondages or are scared of life on the other side of the healing. So although their mouth proclaims desire, their heart does not. That's what God can see into and I believe is often one of the reasons we don't see healings when we pray.

Bottom line, God is going to move for the glory of His name. We may not understand how that plays out all the time, but I trust in Him to always working for good toward us. We just often don't understand that in our limited view in our flesh.

    Just some thoughts.

Just a prediction, Standing, you're going to get quite a backlash from other posters.

I'd be really careful to suggest telling a sick person that it's possible God is not listening to their prayer because they don't really want to be healed. It's the quickest way for you to lose a friend.

    This I agree with.

    Re: Does God Still Heal?

Sometimes God may use your personal afflictions in ways you may not be aware of.
Sometimes it's not about what you have lost, it's all about what is left to you.
An example, a person may have been given the gift of discernment by being able to "read" the speakers facial expressions, but you also have normal hearing and you sit in the pew with your eyes closed listening to " the message".
God may allow an infliction in your life where your hearing begins waning. You're stuck aren't you? Can't do any longer, that sitting peacefully listening to the sermon envisioning in your head.
But, you find that if you actually watch the pastors face, with his expressions, body language, and a little lip reading, the passages you've heard so many time become more profound, more alive. Simply because of a talent or Gift you'd not realized unless you'd lost in order to gain.
Unless you're deaf, dumb, and blind, living on a respirator, any kind of a loss you've experienced in one part of your life can only mean that another part of you has taken on a more profound role in your life.
Take a minute. Reflect on what is left to you. Search for that one or more parts of your life thar has been heightened due to the loss or lack that you're experiencing.

Sometimes God just views it as removing an obstacle that's in the way of your true gift.

Ask God to work with you and your Gift. You may view you afflictions in a different light.

Take it from a guy who's blind in one eye and has his face about eight inches away from the monitor.

    Re: Does God Still Heal?

    Wayne,
God does still heal. I do know of people healed from various ailments, some instantly, some over time.
I believe God has blessed us with doctors and medicines too. Luke in the Bible was a physician. Still, I think there are times when we need to fully rely on God for our healings.

Personally, I am seeking God for a healing from simple partial seizures. I tried the medicine route, but there were so many side effects and my seizures were not under control. Finally I was put on a medicine that seemed to help, but that started to put me into liver failure. My doctors have tried to encourage me to try a different medication. There are ones that work through the kidneys instead of the liver. I made the choice to try the Lord instead. I am still waiting for my healing, but I am not giving up. As I said, I know people who have been healed of some pretty serious things. If God can heal them he can heal me.

Sometimes healing happens on this side of Heaven and sometimes it is the ultimate healing after the person passes and goes to be with the Lord.

Last February, my 15 yr old son had a major stroke. He was paralyzed on the left side of his body. At the time of the stroke, we were at church and we layed hands on him and prayed. We took him to the hospital and others continued to pray for him and that day different ones called various ministers and prayer warriors. People all over the east coast were praying. Later my son started trying to move. It was so hard to watch. The little bit of movement that he had was jerky and his hand and foot were drawn up like he had been crippled all his life. The next morning we learned that he had been allowed to walk (with assistance) to the bathroom as there was not a bathroom in the ICU and he refused to use the urinal bottle. My son recovered very quickly and left the hospital after three days. His doctors said his recovery was remarkable. He had some minor issues with his left hand and had occupational therapy after leaving the hospital, but recovered fully in a matter of months.

I cannot help but wonder if we had not prayed, would he have died, or not recovered? Its hard to think of your once healthy son to have to live paralyzed on the left side. I am convinced God is the reason for my son's recovery. People do not recover from strokes like that. With all the specialists and tests, no condition was ever diagnosed. The stroke's cause is a mystery and we believe that is because God healed him.

One of my bigger problems that I struggled with for years was the lack of patience when God didn't immediately respond to my prayers. Or I got tired of waiting. Then I was showed this verse:

Luke 18:7- And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? (NKJV)

Yes! .... Yes he does. He healed my son of an intestinal problem that was so bad that we had to take him out of school because of it. His sickness lasted 1 1/2 years but the Lord healed him instantly.

Not as in the past !

Now He makes it possible, through doctors and people learning how to use medicians to help.
