Here is a thread talking about it last month...
On the basis of what scripture do weather events factor into the end times?
I'm not saying they don't, I'm just curious why people believe this.
Matthew 24 is a good place to start.
Weather has always been a tool of God....there have always been weather events but it's the power of them now...just the crazy force storms now bring and they keep on coming...you mix that with everything going on in the world...then you start to take notice.
"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that the end is near, right at the door."
Romans 8:19-23 The created universe is waiting with eager expectation for God’s sons to be revealed. It was His choice to subject all things to mortality and decay, with the eventual goal of His people entering into the glorious liberty of immortality and a renewed creation. Up to the present as we know, the whole of creation, in all its parts, groans as if in the pangs of childbirth. What is more, we also, to whom the Spirit is given as first-fruits of the harvest to come, are inwardly groaning in anticipation of our adoption as children of God and our liberation from mortality.
Isaiah 42:13-15 The Lord has kept silence and restrained Himself for all this age, allowing this world to go its own way. But as the appointed time approaches, He is like a woman in labour, prepared and ready to take action. The Lord will go forth as a warrior, roused to a fury in the heat of battle. He will shout His battle cry and will triumph over His enemies. The land will be laid to waste, all the plants and trees will burn and the streams and lakes will become dry. Isaiah 63:4, Habakkuk 2:3, Jeremiah 4:23-28
Matthew 24:3-8 Lord; tell us the signs of the end of this age. Jesus replied: Take care that no-one misleads you, for many false Messiahs and teachers will come and many will be fooled by them. The time is coming when you will hear of wars and rumours of wars, for there will be an increase of wars, earthquakes, diseases and famines. All these things are the birth pangs of the new age. Jeremiah 15:2
As Jesus prophesied, there will be wars, earthquakes, diseases and famines at the end of this age. He likened these things to ‘birth pangs’. When we consider normal childbirth, the labour pangs are separated by periods of relative calm. So if there have been times when clusters of those four disasters have occurred, we can ascertain that time must be very short for this age. Here are the facts:
1/ In 1914-19, World War 1 occurred. There were 7 earthquakes of over 8 magnitude. Smallpox and typhus killed millions, but Spanish flu killed at least 50 million in 1919. There were terrible famines in Europe and Russia.
2/ During 1939-45 there was World War 2 and 8 earthquakes of over 8 magnitude. Typhus again killed millions, in North Africa, in Iran and Europe. Anne Frank died of typhus. A terrible famine in China killed at least 45 million.
3/ The data suggests that we are now in the third ‘birth pang’, that commenced in Nov. 2001. Wars and rumours of wars are rife. It is considered that the global war on terrorism is a world war. There have been so far, 14 earthquakes over 8 and two over 9 magnitude. Diseases such as cancer and AIDs are of epidemic proportions. Crop failures due to unusual weather and wars have resulted in famines in Russia and Africa.
4/ The fourth and final ‘birth pang’, will be the great Tribulation, so vividly described in Revelation, but ending with the Return of Jesus and the birth of the new era.
But the last, most shocking and devastating event of this third birth pang, will be the great Day of the Lord’s vengeance and wrath. This many prophesied ‘fire from heaven’ that describes a huge coronal mass ejection sunstrike, will affect the whole world, killing probably billions. This will enable two things; the establishment of a One World Government and the re-settling of the Lord’s people into all of the holy Land. The 15 to 16 year period, Revelation 8:1, from this CME until the Tribulation is prophesied as a time of peace and prosperity. Something to look forward to!
I don't see diseases or weather mentioned, perhaps you're quoting something else?4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.
The wars, famines, and earthquakes, I see. But these are strictly non-weather related (i.e. not about storms or floods).
"For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again."
Distress is everything in context...of the Earth dying....you pointed out once where God has used weather(flood)...
"As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark,and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."
But the context gives EXACTLY what it is - namely wars, famines, and earthquakes. In that case, it wouldn't be what was predicted in scripture and not helpful in even identifying the end times.Distress is everything in context...of the Earth dying....you pointed out once where God has used weather(flood)...
Distress-Extreme anxiety, sorrow, or pain of a event.
Distress is distress it's not named by any event..it's everything....you have to read Matthew 24 like it's own book of 3 or 4 parts. You're speaking of the early birth pain events.
"For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again"
"If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.
Before Jesus returns we need to go thru Tribulations!
1. Start of tribulations a third of mankind will perish roughly 2.3 Billion people.
2. Tribulations will be a period of 7 years, in this time another 4.7 Billion people will parish.
3. End of Tribulations, Jesus returns.
