Pray for Dagestan, a republic of Russia in the North Caucasus Republics. On April 11th, three armed militants were killed by police on the road near the settlement of Tyube in the Kumtorkala district of the Republic. The deadly incident occurred when police and security officers tried to stop a car for inspection. The people in the car refused to show their documents; instead, they opened fire with automatic weapons and tried to escape. During the ensuing shootout, the car caught fire and three persons inside the car were fatally wounded. There were no losses among police, the security forces or civilians in the violent exchange.
Following this incident, police in Derbent made a large-scale raid in several locations. In some of the houses that were surrounded and searched, police found improvised explosive devices and suicide belts.

Over the last several years, more and more local Muslims, particularly young men, have become radicalized under the influence of those following ideologies similar to the radical ISIS agenda. These susceptible young men really need the truth of God and many are searching. Often, however, their search for purpose and truth makes them vulnerable to radical ideas.

Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—we pray for Your people around the world who are persecuted for their faith in Christ. Thank You, Father, that You sent Your Son to redeem all nations and tribes; we lift before Your throne of grace today those who live in the region of Dagestan. Lord Jesus, as You gather people from around the world into Your church, we pause to thank You for the way You suffered and died for us. We pray for Christians in Dagestan as they suffer fear, seeing the enemy grow in power and influence. Open their eyes to see You that they might have courage to stand strong in their faith. We give thanks that You were raised again into glory and sent Your Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen us. We call on You, Holy Spirit, to protect the believers in Dagestan; protect them from danger and from the temptation to fall away in fear. And we pray that as the gospel of Christ is proclaimed, You will use it to breathe life into those who lie dead in their trespasses and sin. In the name of Jesus, whose gospel we proclaim, Amen.
