    1 John 5:9-11

    1 John 5:9-11
KJV 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
MKJV 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. For this is the witness of God which He has testified about His Son. 10 He who believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself. He who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he does not believe the record that God gave of His Son. 11 And this is the record, that God has given to us everlasting life, and this life is in His Son.

9 We can tell people what God has done it our life but the story of what He did for us at the cross it greater because it made it all possible. Without the cross we wouldn’t have a testimony to give because without the cross we wouldn’t have the Lord in our life but only have a need for our life to change without any hope.

10 Our words we speak need to be guided by God and His word any thing outside truth is a lie many people lived in lies today, many don’t even know it. We are not believe in our power but in the power His gives us, it is by Him that we can.

11 Our life comes from Him even those who reject Him live because of Him, even though they are spiritually dead. It is far greater we have spiritually life which comes from Him because of the love He showed on the cross.

This is indeed an interesting passage. If you study philosophy and the philosophy of knowledge you will discover that men have been unable to find the certainty of knowledge apart from divine revelation. It requires God to press in upon the mind and conscience of men in order for them to be certain of His existence, and certain of anything else in existence. Divine revelation is, in other words, the source of all certainty with respect to knowledge.

Well men continue to live with a degree of certainty about life even without an intimate relationship with God. To some degree all men live with the revelation of God, whether or not they acknowledge it. There is certainty about life and knowledge with all men.

But what this passage is really speaking about is God pressing in upon the mind and conscience of men with respect to the salvation that is in His Son. It is talking about our need for an intimate relationship with God that brings eternal fellowship with God. There can be certainty about this as well--certainty about our salvation.

For some men this is just a claim because even though the revelation of God may be present with them to show them this they may choose to reject it. But the purpose of this revelation is to get it inside of men when they accept it so that they can somehow benefit from it.

The benefit of having God's revelation inside them is precisely so that we can enjoy an intimate relationship with God. And this requires we participate in His nature and thus become like Him. This is salvation. Those who reject it reject His revelation and the certainty that these things are so. And so, they will be judged as being unlike God and in fact wicked. They are calling God a "liar" for denying that He is willing and able to do this. And the proof is in us, because God's very revelation lives in us and is demonstrated in how we live.

Many forget that the story started long before the cross. So the "witness" goes beyond the cross.
