Not sure how effective prayer is but...

Depression and anxiety has been bad...for well...an extremely long time, but lately with the move into a new place I have been having depression flare ups. I don't need anything fancy..just remember me a bit when you silently pray at night and just need God to get me a good therapist, psychiatrist since I am in a new place and have to find a new counseling center. I also need direction to sort out my issues and make progress in digging myself out of this 10 year+ hole I have been digging with bad thinking patterns. I have skeptical views with prayer, I guess I see it as a means to change us to make action, rather than a speak it and forget way...God gives us a lift back onto our feet so we can fight and work out our issues, and I expect no less, I guess is how I see it...

I'll pray for you. I take Prozac, myself, for depression and anxiety. My therapist is a wonderful man who is also a Christian. I know what it's like go to the deep "downs".

Just one word - don't stop praying yourself. It's a good thing that God's grace and mercy isn't dependent on our temperament.

I will make sure to keep an open communication between me and God,when things get rough it does, in a messed up way, allow me to feel close to Him. To be honest I am not close to many people and have consistently been hurt by others throughout my life. I find comfort that God isn't like people and that there is at least one person who is on my side of the ring cheering me on and having good thoughts of me..in a world that demonizes me and reviles me. I'm happy there is another who knows how ravaging depression can be.

Depression can be a sign of unresolved resentment. Meditate on forgiveness.

Check out the Comfort & Encouragement part the forum. Good advice there.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.Matt 5:6

I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. John 13:15

Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
    Matt 25:46

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith,

    I echo Jaynes recommendations.

what exactly do you mean by "Claim His healing"?
9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. 10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith. - Galatians 6:9-10 NASB

This is a "No Debate" area. So don't even start one here.

Take it to a more appropriate place. Contro would be more suitable.

Praying for you. I am also afflicted with depression and anxiety at times and find this affliction rather "normal" compared to those who have no issues whatsoever. Your gift is His grace. We all have gifts. God made us is with us and He will sustain us. Amen.
    Peace to you!

It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from Godthat is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

You are so not alone friend. I am sorry you suffer from this and I will pray for you and all who suffer from depression and anxiety. I have a young adult son suffering greatly and tried so many meds which seem to help at first but then nothing. So hard to treat this and I do know what you all are going through. I have had issues with depression at times and I agree with you scooby snacks. It should not be surprising how many people are depressed and anxious with the things going on in our world today and I have wondered if it's normal to not be depressed.

I recently watched a sermon on youtube from a pastor John K Jenkins on depression and he believes alot of depression and anxiety is caused by fear of our past, present or future and he says that if we can let go of the fears we have it would probably resolve. He pointed out some scriptures regarding depression. He does also acknowledge that some depression is caused by chemical imbalance and needs medication to treat. I found it helpful so thought I would point you to it hoping it can bring you a little comfort.
