your bold letters make it seem like you are yelling....
ok I believe that people get the idea of purgatory from the following verses:
20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."
But since Christ has died the OT saints are now in heaven and there is no longer any use for this place...I believe it is empty or void.

i just like to bold things
i just want people to post who honestly believe purgatory is in scripture-this is a parable that means; if the Jews do not believe in the prophets they will not believe in the ressurection, clearly this does not mean purgatory........![]()
I was talking about the place they were at not what it meant if one should leave that place and go and witness to someone..the literal place itself....I think you would be more likely to find those who believe in purgatory in the Catholic bible forums than you might here..but I suppose we will see.

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, [ye are] God's building.
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon.
But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Ramon,
I don't belioeve in purgatory the way the Catholic's do. However, I do believe that the possibility exist that there is some type of consumation by fire to burn up the useless junk and memory of sin then what remains will determine our reward.
Jim

I apologize..but I don't believe in it, but I know where the doctrine came from.
I Corinthians 3:15, "If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire."
This word 'fire' in the greek is 'PUR', which is where the word 'Purgatory' is derived from.
Dear Ramon,
I've learnt that one do not have to type in a higher octave to get your point over. I know that one feels it will help, but believe me, we can all read and it makes is actually a bit more difficult, contrary to what one may believe when typing in huge bold letters.
The Lord is our Shepherd
die Here sal voorsien
it’s the only method
glo dit en jy sal sien
The power of His glory
is the punch line of this story,
ek staan verwonderd en tog
het U alles volmaak besorg
I have yet to find anything that says there is something even remotly similar to purgatory scripturally, after we die and before judgement. Maybe I missed it, but if somene can tell me if there is something inbetween with solid evidence scripturally, please do post it.
If it's true, then what could we be judged on? What point would there be if all were purified prior to judgement?![]()
Seek ye FIRST the kingdom.
Not second or third, but first.
Only when all else pales to God, when He receives all glory,
when He is the source of all hope,
when His love is received and freely given,
holding not to the world but to the promise to come,
will all other things be added unto to you.
This is the main scripture that a Catholic would used to support the doctrine of purgatory. Read it closely and consider the context.
For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, [ye are] God's building.
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon.
But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
)This is the one...)
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
You should try discussing this with a real Catholic.
