Calvinism-Arminianism

OK, I know that there are so many varieties of theology. But most consider Arminianism and Calvinism to be the poles. So, let's see where most consider themselves to lie. Now, just a little background, for those who are not familiar with their theologies:

Calvinism holds to a few distinctives worth mentioning:

1. regeneration first, then you are able to believe
2. unconditional election (chosen by God). We do not choose God, he chooses us.
3. perseverance of the saints (a form of eternal security - salvation cannot be "lost")

Arminianism holds to:

1. faith first, which leads to regeneration.
2. we choose God - faith is our own, not a gift
3. we can lose our salvation if we do not persevere in good works. Some say that it's not a matter of good works, but of turning from God to follow the world

I guess I lean toward Arminian now that I heard this term over the past year and now see some characteristics based on the 3 listed in your post.

Until this board I always considered myself just a Christian. Now, not only are there "denominations" but "types" as well

I keep things simple and just read my Bible and based on my understanding of God's Word, I have to say I lean Arminian.

Seeing as this is a public poll, I can't answer it.

If I answer Calvinist, I will get beat up by my Ariminian friends. If I say Arminian, I will get beat up by my Calvinist friends.

So I am going to have to plead the 5th on this one.

I attend a calvinist (reformed baptist) church. That was my first introduction to it. I lean towards it so i voted #3.

I voted #4 - slightly to the Calvinistic side. I noticed that our 3 and 4 don't add up to slug1's 8... does that mean his one post over-rides our two?

These days when asked if I am a Calvinist or Arminian I generally answer "Yes." I was rased a United Methodist (still a member there) but went to an ultra conservative christian college (I had roomates that would out Calvin Calvin). Both points of view have plusses and mineses.
