Psalm 23 (New King James Version)

1] The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2] He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3] He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4] Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5] You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6] Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD

As you read Psalm 23 allow God to imprint it's message of hope on your heart. Focus on verse one. It is common that buildings, monuments and landmarks be named for notable people. Most of us do not have our name in high profile places. Note the fourth word of verse one. Substitute your name for the pronoun. The Lord is (insert name) Shepherd. God wants us to make such a personal connection to His Word. We need to see ourselves on the pages of Scripture. Such a view will help us gain the perspective that God is totally involved in our lives.

One result of seeing God as our ever-present Shepherd is that we can find true contentment. Freedom from want is not having as much stuff as we may like, it comes from having all of God that we need.
