1 Peter 2:1-3 (New King James Version)

1] Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2] as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3] if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

Believers are Children in God's Spiritual Family

We are wired by God with a need to belong. In Chapter 2, Peter takes great pains to demonstrate to believers exactly where they belong. When we are reborn through Christ we become part of the spiritual family of God. The newborns of that family give evidence of their family DNA by casting off their former characteristics held before being family members, and by desiring the vital connection of their new family.

Note what happens in that new family: We clean house! We make a clean sweep of hurtful words and hurtful actions. Note what we desire, to drink deeply of the Word of God. Welcome to the family.

FOR TODAY: Read 1 Peter 2:1-3 three times.
