Why do Jews believe that the Messiah is yet to come, and that Jesus was not the true Messiah?

Are the Jews still God's "chosen people"?

The main reason is that they were expecting Messiah to be the conquering King who would save them from the physical oppression of their human conquerers. 2000 years ago when Yeshua was here that was the Romans. Because that did not happen they did not accept Him as Messiah. We as Christians know that He did indeed conquer our true oppressor....SIN!

As for your last question, we'll have to be really careful to or this thread will end up getting moved to the Controversial Issues forum as this can be a very charged topic. Let me first say that 'chosen' does not mean better. Of course the Jews were chosen to bring Messiah and the scriptures to mankind. Are they still chosen for anything? Answers to this question are going to really depend on a person's eschatology. Do they believe in a literal revival amongst the physical descendants of Israel? I believe so, many others do not. Scripture tells us that God is faithful.

Deut. 7:9 - “Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments

A thousand generations have not passed. Do they 'deserve' His mercy? Do we? Being deserving is really not the issue. God's faithfulness is.

God Bless!

Jesus said, "He that is not with me is against me" Mark 11:23

"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. "Ephesians 4:4

"Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that ye love one another. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me. " John 15:16

"If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God" I Peter 2:3

"the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful." Revelation 17:14

"I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. " John 10:14
