Before His Side was Pierced

~One of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water~

We will never fully understand the depths of the love of God for humanity. Even those that belong to Jesus Christ will never be able to plunge the depths of that love. Throughout eternity the love of God towards us will unfold. Because God is infinite, there can be no end to the revealing of His glorious Being to us. Richer and fuller will be our bliss as He pours out His love upon us.

The earthly life of Jesus, while He revealed to us the character of God was one of love, love, love! Never a man has loved as the God-man. Oh, how He pleaded for men to come to Him!

Behold Him as He grieves over the peoples’ sorrows and sufferings. See Him weeping over death and the grief at losing loved ones. Jesus wept near the tomb of Lazarus as He saw the grieving hearts of those who loved Lazarus. He felt the pain of their loss. See Him sighing and groaning over the one who was deaf and had a speech impediment. Behold the God-man as He yearned over His beloved Jerusalem and pleaded with the unbeliever one more time to come to Him. ~O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood and ye would not! If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace~

Towards the end of His life, we observe Him carrying His cruel cross up the hill to Calvary. So beaten beyond recognition is He that another is called forth to finally carry it for Him. As He is crucified, darkness descends upon the horrific scene as His side heaves, struggling to get a breath as He hangs upon the cross.

What incredible love flows from Him as He hangs upon that cross. His last breaths of air are spent on pleading for others. ~Father forgive them, for they know not what they do~ is His incredible plea of love as He was nailed to the cross.

Finally He dies. To make certain that He died ~one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water~

Every human act in the crucifixion was a revelation of fallen man and our rejection of God. “And yet to crown it all, one man, as though representing the whole fallen race, took a spear and drove it into the heart of God.”

Oh, Jesus! The Power of You Love
