1 Peter 3:8-12 (New King James Version)

8] Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; 9] not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. 10] For “ He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. 11] Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. 12] For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil.”

OPEN HOUSE
Peace and quiet. Contentment and solitude. Safety and refuge. Fulfillment and the joys of living. Sound like your home? What about disagreements, misunderstandings, jealousy, greed, discord, discouragement and discontent? Fortunately, most of our homes fall somewhere between these extremes. Life is often a complicated stew of all the “good, bad, and ugly” that we experience every day. How can we minimize the second list and maximize the first? In a nutshell, Peter says that we should smooth out our interpersonal relationships and live above the fray of competing interests and egos—but the process starts with us, not with our spouses or our neighbors. The bottom line here is simply put others before yourself—in the home, the workplace, the parking lot, or even the check-out line.

For Today: Ask the Lord to help you forget self and focus on the needs of others.
