1 Peter 4:17-19 (New King James Version)

17] For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18] Now “If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?” 19] Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

Making Sense of Suffering

Have you ever tried to make sense of suffering? It has been a philosophical puzzle for human beings from the beginning. However, there are some truths that shed light on our understanding. Suffering is common to man and is shared by the just and the unjust. this is caused by the curse of sin upon God's creation and has consequences that we can't begin to fathom. Ignoring the principles built into creation can cause suffering. If we fail to live by good instruction, grief and heartache may follow. Suffering can be purposely caused by cruel intentions. Suffering can also build character and focus our attention on what is important. The Refiner's fire is something we can omly understand by trusting our souls to a good and faithful God.
