Luke 17:22 And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.

Does not this verse seem to prove, that when Jesus said 'this generation' shall not pass away [Matt 24] He was not referring to those there at that time?

Does not this verse seem to prove, that AD70 was not the fulfilment of the prophesied end times?

Perhaps He meant by 'this generation shall not pass away' that once the signs start taking place they will finish within one generation.

1. One should recognize that the very need for this thread shows that 24:34 is a problem for those denying that the olivet discourse was fulfilled in the 1st century.

2. One could make a strong case that Luke 17 is about the 2nd Coming, but Matthew 24:1-34 is about AD70. If so, this would void your question.

3. Even if Luke 17 is a parallel to Matthew 24, "you will not see it" would simply refer to the time period b/w AD30 and AD70 when they longed to see the day of Jesus, but couldn't at that time.
