I am contemplating buying a Bible. I have never actually read it, unless you count the children's Bible that I read as a child and there are several to choose from. Anyone have any suggestions for one that may be "easier" to read for a newbie like me?

Thanks in advance.

If you go to:
http://www.biblegateway.com/
You can test out some different tranlations and find one that you like best as far as ease of reading.
I hope this helps. :)

Hey one_luv... for a native English-speaking American - I really like the NIV (New International Version) and the NLT (New Living Translation). NLT sometimes leaves out some important nuances. I spend most of my time on BibleGateway as suggested in this thread and if I'm really trying to learn a particular paragraph or chapter then I'll actually go through and read the NIV version, read the NLT version, maybe NASB, and usually NKJV. Then I'll pick through what I think are the consistent themes of all 3 or 4 in context and decide how I really feel about it.

The physical/paper Bible that I carry with me most is an NLT Bible. I find that it's easiest to teach from for my high school students.
