Miracles and a dream
Daddy gave me a dream. It was about the Pharisee and the man who smote his breast (Luke 18). He put me on the top of the Temple, and let me see them clearly. I asked questions and He answered me. It was so beautiful that I just enjoyed being up there. Daddy explained a lot to me and then I indulged those answers with hunger for more. I didn't understand why God gave me that opportunity until a few days later. While I was having a little argument with my husband, (happens in the best marriages too),... -

A Girl named Hope
We met Hope soon after we sold a house in Alcoa, Tennessee and moved a few miles away, just outside the city limits of Maryville, Tennessee. Hope was a year younger than my daughter who was eleven years old. She rode the school bus with my children and lived three houses down from us on a street where a builder had built ten homes side by side on one side of the road. We all had about one and a half acres, mostly at the rear of our homes since the homes sat near the road and the lots were narrow,... -

Christmas At The Gas Station
This story was given to me a few years back. I don't know who the author is. I did not write it. But since it was given to me, I want to give it to others. Christmas is a time of giving, friends. No one really learns to live until they learn to give. I've often thought about something. You see, every vegetable or fruit we eat has given itself to sustain our life. Every steak, burger, pork chop and chicken sandwich we eat, some animal has given itself to feed us. And best of all...Go... -

A Word of Encouragement
You woke up this morning and the crises began – keys missing, children uncooperative, bus running late, traffic snarled, boss unreasonable, and that was BEFORE you heard or read even one bit of the day’s news. It’s enough to have us beaten down and ineffective if we allow it to do so.
Psalm 25 (quoted below in bold type) provides a good word of encouragement, and who couldn’t use that most days?
1) To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
2) O my God, in you... -

God's Plan for our Time
As 2013 moves along, we may wonder what it is that the Lord has next for His creation. We know the story of how He destroyed an early civilization by the means of a great flood. Jesus prophesied that in the time of the end it will again be ‘as in the days of Noah’. We can’t know how bad that civilization was, but it seems they just got on with life much the same as we do today. From God’s point of view, their problem was they failed to acknowledge Him or respect His Laws, so their Creator simpl... -

The God Who Sees Me
Isn't it interesting that we say we believe that God is sovereign, He loves us, He sees everything and knows everything, yet our prayers tell another story. Have you ever noticed how when trouble comes our way, we cry out to him in fear as if He has no clue what's going on and can't even hear our cries. Not only that but our prayers prove that we seem to think God, our Father and Savior, doesn't really care what's happening to us. Now before you assume that I'm calling us all faithless, please... -

It cometh to you as the eternal, O Lord God, the Word, and for her country.
The title of this article is taken from Psalm 119:89 translated like a ping pong ball in time. Behold the permenace of the Word of God: from Aramaic to English, to Irish, to Latin, then back to plain English. The sweet frosting on the cake is this translation was not done by a scholar with a degree or a linguist rife with discernment. Instead, it was done by a machine. It is refreshing to realize the Bible is more than prose. The word of God is, has been, and always will be, established firmly in h... -

A Little Man Named Farris
One Sunday morning after the church service our Pastor asked Bill and me if we might do him a favor. He said, "I was thinking it would help me a lot if you could do this.” He said he had left very early that morning to pick up someone who had called him, wanting to come to church. “He lives at an assisted living facility for men," he continued, "and I think you pass by there on your way to church. Since its on your way if he could ride with you then I wouldn't have to leave forty minutes earlier... -

Of Rocks, Gates, and Keys
Since I love explaining this story... A gate was a stronghold of a city. It was built nothing like the gates to castles and castle complexes like we see in the movies. It often was a labyrinth with many turns where there were parapets along the whole labyrinth before you got to the door as well so that a marauding army would attack anywhere but a gate. Jesus was a bit of a different Schmeeka Rabbi (highest order of rabbi) than the other ones. He would often take trips (vacations) into Roman/... -

Good Deeds
When was the last time you were shocked or surprised by an awful event? There isn’t a day that goes by without something heinous making the front page of the newspaper. People have become numb. We’ve cultivated a society that thrives on negativity and leans toward believing the absolute worst about someone or something. In spite of our obvious conditioning, every once in a while someone will do something that is absolutely amazing. If you look hard enough, you might just see something that reaches... -
