  • The Enemy Within, and the Victory From Above

The Enemy Within, and the Victory From Above

A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart. (Luke 6:45)

But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
    (Matthew 5:28)
For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. (Matt 15:19) Anyone who ha...

  • When the Son of Man Comes, Will He Find Faith On the Earth?

When the Son of Man Comes, Will He Find Faith On the Earth?

........As I run this race that God has set before me I grow more and more perplexed at Christianity. For many years I have fought the idea of what I call 'greasy grace' and I have fought it hard. I've adopted the phrase I hate exercising futility and often refuse to do so once I determine the futility in whatever (or whoever) it is that I'm facing. Yet, there are some things God puts before us that require us to push on regardless of the nature of the people we are dealing with. ...

About forty or forty-two years ago I was helping teach at the annual Vacation Bible School at our church. My class was ages four through six. That was the only year I ever taught that age group. In future years I usually taught teenagers. Bible School that year was in June and the weather was perfect. It did not rain the entire week and the temperature was ideal for the children to have some time to play outside. For snack time we had set up tables on the paved parking lot at the rear of the...

  • Liberty and Freedom: spiritual and profane

Liberty and Freedom: spiritual and profane

[Presented to Sunday School on the occasion of 4th of July 2011]

Liberty and Freedom: spiritual and profane

    HB Paksoy, D. Phil.

Living under the church politics, the thinkers of the World were probably behaving like highly tipsy individuals leaving a drinking establishment. Their drink was Renaissance, and the ability to think beyond a single book, Holy though it was, prevalent.
The word “liberty” is often used in discourses. Let us take a...

  • The Rope of Hope

    The Rope of Hope

    The Rope of Hope

The Rope of Hope ministry is aimed at us as women who live our every day lives, day in and day out behind a mask of coping with being a Wife, a Mother, Career woman friend ...all in one.....

We carry the burden of doing it all in our own strength trying to mask the emotional pain of dealing with our own perceived failures, as we measure ourselves against the masks of our peers at the work-place and at church. We perceive them all to be doing so

  • Success and Failure

    Success and Failure

This text was presented to Sunday School at the FBCR During June 2011 by HB Paksoy, D. Phil. Success differs according to where the observer is standing: a burglar, if he can get away without getting caught, is successful. The home owner, who has just been burglarized, is a failure because he could not preserve his belongings. In the Bible, there are over fifty instances of prayers to the Lord for “success.” I could not find one of “...

We all know a bit about Eagles, so this is not another classroom to teach anyone about them. But I have been looking into characteristics of the mighty eagle and I want to share some of my thoughts. There are more than 60 species of eagles, mainly habitating in Eurasia and Africa. Outside this area, just two species (the Bald and Golden Eagles) can be found in the United States and Canada, nine more species are found in Central and South America, and three in Australia. Eagles are almost ever...

  • God Means Business

    God Means Business

The defeat of the Israelites at Ai in Joshua 7 remains one of the most interesting passages in the book of Joshua. After having destroyed Jericho in a great victory, Joshua decides to send a much smaller army to Ai. Contrary to all expectations, the Israelites are defeated. When a despondent Joshua inquires of the Lord, God replies that the reason for the defeat is the sin of one man: Achan. Here is what God actually says to Joshua:

11 Israel has sinned. They have violated My covenant...

Bible Study Discipleship of the Body of Christ

Bible study notes written up after the class and emailed out to all those participating in the study. God bless you all. During the previous week’s notes I mentioned that we will begin to read through and discuss Matthew 10:16-26. Posted below are the scriptures that we did actually read through and discuss and will continue deeper into the remaining scriptures in the following weeks. In prayer, I was asking God where else and what else was there to be brought forth in this study about Disciples...

  • Love

I would like to talk about love. Of course we all know the Scripture there is about love in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8: 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: but wheth...

  • Another dream combined with more miracles
    by miepie
This is the sequence to my previous article "Miracles and a dream". I had another dream a few nights ago. It was about Charles and I taking a day's trip on the train. We went all the way down south to see as much of the country as possible. Train cards are available at local stores that are less expensive in the summer and fall. Two people can then travel across the whole country cheaper than the price of a single fair from the train station in winter or spring. I also dreamed that we we...

  • Two spirits, one space
    by Senormac
When I moved to this area of Oregon from Southern California, I was keenly aware of the different "spirits" that were here. People are friendly but also people are into a lot of weird occult, lifestyle, and earth energy practices. The tree huggers shop at the same organic grocery stores that the Buddists shop at and the Amazonian mystism followers ride their bicycles on the same path as cannabis growers. In the yearly city celebration parade a more eclectic group of folks you will not see, from...

  • A time to pray
    by Graham Hickey
Is it a time to pray?

Very often as I journey through the day I hear of groups that are setting up against the Christian faith, or I see other faiths doing things really well. This screams out at me. As a Christian church these things can be missing in our worship and life, and perhaps through highlighting other faiths. Is God is trying to compel us to act? Jesus prayed before he started his earthly ministry (before he was baptised), and before he was arrested to be crucified. ...

  • Freedom
    by brakelite
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:6,7) The principles and concepts that under-gird promises such as quoted above echo across the pages of the Holy Bible from the first book, Genesis, to the final pages of Revelation. They reveal a Creator God who, despite being despi...

  • What is Being "Christlike?"
    by Sojourner
Someone recently asked if remaining silent about things like homosexuality and atheism is not more "Christlike" than speaking out against them--just love them, and be silent about what is displeasing to God. In that regard, we might ask if Jesus Himself--the very embodiment of God's love--was silent about the dangers of hell. Did His message not declare eternal judgment the final estate of those failing to repent and seek after the kingdom of God? Did He not warn His hearers that they would perish...

  • A Pearl of Wisdom
    by Sojourner
As most people know, pearls, unlike most precious gems formed by geological forces, are the result of a biological process that occurs within various mollusks, including the oyster. Different species of mollusks produce pearls in a wide variety of shapes and colors, varying in beauty and value. A perfectly round pearl with just the right size, color, texture and iridescence is very rare, making such specimens highly prized and valuable. Whether pearls are produced naturally in the wild or met...
