    The Psychological War

“Capture their minds and their hearts and souls will follow.” Author Unknown

If you think about it, our minds were captured long ago. When Adam and Eve were still in the Garden of Eden, Eve was deceived, Adam was disobedient and ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This was the only Commandment God had given them, not to eat from this tree or you will die. Satan captured Eve’s mind through deception, and Adam’s as well through Eve.

Lets look at some of the tactics of Psychological Warfare and what they are aimed at.

Psychological warfare (PSYWAR), or the basic aspects of modern psychological operations (PSYOP, PSYOPS), have been known by many other names or terms, including Psy Ops, Political Warfare, “Hearts and Minds,” and even Propaganda.[1]

Various techniques are used, by any set of groups, and aimed to influence a target audience's value systems, belief systems, emotions, motives, reasoning, or behavior. It is used to induce confessions or reinforce attitudes and behaviors favorable to the originator's objectives, and are sometimes combined with black operations or false flag tactics. Target audiences can be governments, organizations, groups, and individuals.

“All warfare is based on deception.”
    Sun Tzu
    The Art of War

According to Sun Tzu’s philosophy on war “All” warfare is based on deception. What most combat veterans know is that the best offense is in the field is to 1) surprise the enemy 2) to create a diversion. Our enemy works in the same manner; he will surprise us and distract us to throw us off guard.

Look at the first quote though in this article “Capture their minds and their hearts and souls will follow.” Our enemy, satan, knows this to be true as well. “Author Unknown” could just as easily be Satan couldn’t it? He knows that if he can capture our mind through temptation, which is the distraction/diversion most of the time. He knows if he can capture our mind, our hearts and souls will follow. Before we finish this thought lets look at 2 Corinthians 10:

    2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; ) (5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Our mind is the battleground, if he can capture it our heart and soul will follow. But if we realize that we wrestle not against flesh and blood Ephesians 6:12, we can begin to understand that this is a psychological war. Using the same techniques/tactics as Psychological Warfare does.

Some tactics we all know how to do. Some we have to be trained in yes, but most of them we have learned throughout our life. We’ve learned to manipulate people through many different ways; now look back at the definition of Psychological Warfare.

“Various techniques are used, by any set of groups, and aimed to influence a target audience's value systems, belief systems, emotions, motives, reasoning, or behavior. It is used to induce confessions or reinforce attitudes and behaviors favorable to the originator's objectives,”

Psychological Warfare is designed to get you to change the way you think about this that particular situation or belief, whatever it is. Satan uses these same techniques/tactics to get us to sin. That’s why temptation is the distraction/diversion most of the time, that’s why “The Tempter” was Part 2 of this Study. Look back at what Sun Tzu said:

“All warfare is based on deception.”
    Sun Tzu
    The Art of War

A diversion is a distraction from what is about to happen.

Diversion: 5. Military. A feint intended to draw off attention from the point of main attack.

    Source: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/diversion

But look at the last comment in the definition of Psychological Warfare “It is used to induce confessions or reinforce attitudes and behaviors favorable to the originator's objectives,”

Disobedience was satan’s objective in the Garden of Eden and is still today. Satan distracted Eve with the question about what God said, “And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Genesis 3:1b) Satan was in essence saying “God didn’t mean for you to take that literally did He? You won’t surely die.” (Genesis3:4b,5) Look at the context of how it was said: (3:1b) “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (3:4b,5) 4b “Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

Satan knew that if he could get Adam and Eve to eat from this tree, he would capture the minds of all of their children to come, because the seed of disobedience would have been sown. (All men and women are descendants of Adam and Eve). He accomplished his mission as we see in the next verse in Genesis 3:6

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
In Part 1 of this Study I mentioned Sleep Deprivation. How does the enemy use this against us? The words are pretty much self-explanatory, they mean, “Deprived of sleep”. What happens when we don’t get sleep? First we tend to get cranky and rebellious with those around us. If the deprivation of sleep continues it tends to wear down our defenses. We can and will reach a point that in order to get some much needed rest and sleep, we will agree to whatever is being presented to us. We can even compromise what we believe.

Cults use this tactic to get you indoctrinated into their belief. All the while you want to get sleep so you can rest and think clearly, they are continually bombarding you with more of what they believe. In essence they are the “Taskmasters” at work putting us under the bondage of slavery again. They are subtle at first but indoctrination is a path that they have to take you down. Since it would go against what you believe if it were presented in it’s true form, they have to feed it to you slowly while you are being deprived of sleep in order to get you to agree with them and change your mind about what you did believe. It’s true form being worshiping and serving another god.

“Capture their minds and their hearts and souls will follow.”
    Author Unknown

Now that we’ve looked at how the enemy works, lets look at how God uses Psychological Warfare.

    Luke 4:18,19

“18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Jesus wasn’t talking about the Jews being captives of the Romans, nor of the Scribes and Pharisees. Their minds had been captured long ago too! They weren’t immune to the sin of disobedience that came from Adam and Eve. Jews and Gentiles alike were in fact captives.

We have to remember satan was the one that waged the war; God fought this war for us, through His Son Jesus Christ.

Exodus 15:3 “The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.”

    “Truth is the best PSYOP”
    Colonel Fred Walker, USSOCOM

We can look at John chapter 8 and see just how God used the truth. Lets look at verse 32 Jesus said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” This goes right along with Luke 4:18 Jesus came to set the captives free. Captives that didn’t even realize they were captive! Look at what Jesus said in verses 38 thru 44

38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

There’s no indoctrination there! Jesus flat out told them the truth! You only think you are serving God, but in fact you serve the devil! Whew! That’s a powerful statement. But look at what Jesus points out in verse 40 and 44 “But now you seek to kill me” (v. 40a) “He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.” (v.44b) Satan would want to kill Jesus wouldn’t he? Satan’s original plan was to be above God. Satan’s original plan was to overthrow the throne of God. A coup if you will, to take charge of things and have everyone and everything bowing to him, including God!

You see, all sin leads back to the Garden of Eden with the simple act of disobedience by Adam. It was by Adam that sin entered the world, and it was by Jesus Christ that many shall be made righteous. Romans 5:19 “For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”

Here’s all one need do to be set free.

Rom. 3:10, "As it is written, There is none righteous, not even one...”

Recognize you have no righteousness in you.

Rom. 3:23, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

    All
of us have sinned and fall short of His glory.

Rom. 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Recognize what we deserve and what is being offered.

Rom. 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Recognize that even while you and I would sin, Jesus paid the price for those sins.

Rom. 10:9-10, "if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation."

Rom. 10:13, "For whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved."

Recognize that only by calling upon His name can and will save you. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior before it’s too late!

Part 5 will be a summary of this Study.

Indeed my friend, the battlefield is the mind!!
This made me think of the parable of the Sower.... and the seed... one has to be careful of what seed is sown in the fertile soil of you mind....

I am also reminded of the children song that goes like this.... be careful little eyes what you see, be careful little ears what you hear...
For bad seed can soil your soul

That comment reminded me of the year the turnips choked everything else out in my garden. Which goes right along with what you are saying otherwise. Thank you Ta-An.

  • Spiritual/Psychological Warfare Part 5

Summary of Study It has been said that the greatest trick Satan ever did, was to convince man that he doesn't exist. It is true, that if we don't believe there are any consequences for our actions, then whatever it is we may be doing or want to do, we will do or continue doing. We were born with a sinful nature, with rebellion as a part of that nature. Just as Satan had a rebellious nature. He wanted to be like the Most High. (Isaiah 14:12-15) And this is the deception he used to deceive E...

This is the third installment of this Study. Sorry for the delay on it, but due to the nature of this particular topic of the Study, I’ve tried to be careful in “my” wording of things, and have only intended my words to be that of exhortation and to remind us of how powerful our words are. But there is One, Who’s Words are far more powerful than ours and satan’s.

Job 19:1-3 Then Job answered and said, (2) How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words? (3) These...

With part 1 being the introduction to the study. The study covers our behavior individually from different perspectives.
