  • Please Help When was the great flood of Noah?

I am having a debate with an atheist about when the flood of Noah actually happened. Many Bible scholars say it happened around 2500 BC, but if you look at history, you see that there are writings and evidence of civilizations around that time that have no record of a flood or a break in there existance. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

The bible doesn't date it from now going only dates it from Adam coming forward.

If you could find out what year Adam was created; then you could date it.

Since all humanity that is alive now, descended from Noah and his three sons; you can know however, that all of today's histories and peoples have came AFTER the flood.

That's about all you're gonna find.

Arguing the flood with an Athiest won't make them any more Athiest.

Might rather, try sharing the love and gospel of Jesus Christ with them in a caring and personal manner.

      Just a thought.

The creation of the world is 8,000 BC
The flood is around 5,500 BC
The tower of Babel 4,500 BC
        Earliest civilizations 3,800 BC

Reason - I do not interpret genealogies as literal chronologies.
There are examples where names have been dropped.
In Genesis Adam to Noah is 10 generations. Shem to Abram 10 generations.
Why? those names make up a specific sentence as posted earlier.

        Look at Mt.'s genealogy, 3 sets of 14 generations, covering 1,000, 400, 600 yrs.
Obviously some names where omitted to make up the lists to be 14 exactly.

But I do not believe one can pull out of these lists, 100,000 years.
Dates are not exact, only rough estimates.
