  • The difference between man and angels in relation to God

What is it that defines the difference between man and angels in regards to their relationship to God? How are we the same and how do we differ? How does man serve a different purpose than angels and vise-versa?

In Genesis it says we were made in the image of God...there is no verse in the bible that says angels were made in His image. Angels are God's mess agers. We (once we accept Jesus as our Savior) become the adopted children of God. An angels cannot do this. Are you looking for some more indepth studies on this or just wanting general information?

    God bless
"People do not drift toward holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord. We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; We drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; We drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated?" - D A Carson

Angels are servants and that is all they will ever be.

We are the bride. We share God's uncreated life within us. Angels do not partake in Christ's uncreated life as we do. We are his children. Angels are ministering servants. Do we serve? Yes, in the sense that we are sons and are in the family business.

If all God wanted was servants, he could have stopped with angels. But he wanted a family and that is something that angels cannot be to Him.
      Matt 9:13
13 "But go and learn what this means: ' I DESIRE COMPASSION,AND NOT SACRIFICE,' for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Angels are spirit beings, while men have physical bodies (though we also have an immaterial dimension - soul/heart/mind)

Angels are greater in strength and wisdom than men.

Angels are not subject to the laws of nature or the physical universe as men are.

Angels cannot die like men can.

Angels cannot be redeemed. Redemption is a key theme throughout the Bible and God's redemptive attributes (eg. mercy, grace, forgiveness) are displayed in His dealings with sinful men, whereas sinful or fallen angels are simply condemned. As Moonglow pointed out, man is made in the "image of God" and it would appear that this 'likeness' to God made it possible for man to be redeemed by the God-Man Jesus Christ, but prohibited the redemption of angels who are not made in God's image as we are.

While angels are ministering spirits, they are also superior to men at this point in time (Heb 2:7), however ultimately all things, including angels (see 1 Cor 6:3) will come under the "subjection" of man in his glorified state.

Caboose, I moved this thread to Bible Chat where it would get more attention. When you get the chance, please read "Bible Study Guidelines ~ PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU POST YOUR STUDY".

1st John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

The easiest answer I can give is in Hebrews. Angels are ministering spirits sent to minister to the heirs of salvation - Heb 1:14. Mankind are the heirs to salvation. Hope this helps.

Heb 1:14 answers you the easiest. Angels are ministering spirits sent to minister to the heirs of salvation. Mankind are the heirs of salvation that angels minister to.
