  • A Believer's Transgression

What is the transgression that so easy gets your goat, ensnares and causes you to fall into iniquity?

Heb 12:1 - Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
A great many of people who did good service towards God have had to deal with and overcome so hugh addictions to please God. Like David, who had the same problem I had.

Sexual lust was mine transgression that plagued me. I have to watch what I entertainment myself with on television. If I put it before my eyes on a movie, it gets into my mind, and then the thoughts start. I have to stop watching the movie. I was addicted to pornography since my childhood. My father use to collect VCR movies and magazines of pornagraphy. I would often look at these things and get caught by my father who would not punish me in return.

I had to go years in the faith fighting and seeking deliverance from this vice. I would go months doing good, then without conscious that pornography would come accross my path from an outside source like my college roommate, army barracks roommate, living with my parents again (after I turned 18, my father stopped hiding them and place them in plain view), and ex wife (she later tried to turn me into a swinger, and yes this marriage ended in divorce after she committed adultery), and others to include saints.

The same thing would happen every time. I would get reintroduce to pornography and then have to fight it off. It would cloud my thoughts and emotions. I would find myself drawn to it. Eventually the Holy Spirit would rescue me from this vice again and again. Now deliverance is a real thing.

Now I go on to next vice that I am addicted to, pride. It must fall as well if I am to be the man God called me to be.

What vice and addictive transgression causes you to stumble?
Edify the brethren, love the brethren, and forgive the brethren until I have nothing left.

Now this is some real Bible Chat but where is the discussion. I need my brother's ministry towards me for my edification. Brothers were born for adversity.

Your sin is forgiven you, go in peace.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

What vice and addictive transgression causes you to stumble?
          Simple.

          Life itself.

Because being alive brings everything else about.

And it doesn't matter whether it is of pride, of greed, of lust, of...
          whatever.

That pride thing that you fight now.
Perhaps it will be overthrown the next time you succumb to lust, yet again.

So then you don't have to be obedient because Jesus was obedient? Seems a strange concept considering Scripture makes it pretty clear that we are supposed to be obedient ourselves eh?

Did I say no obedience on our part is involved? Our obedience is not something we do 'in order to attain' righteousness but something God works in us and comes out through a thankful heart not in order to merit but because of Christ's merit put to our account and His Spirit working in us.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
                    (Gal 2:16)

And once justified we continue in this way-

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
                    (Gal 2:20)

We are obedient according to our faith in Him. Since none of us has perfect faith then none of us are perfectly obedient. Since we have failed in one point we have broken all the law. Yet faith takes consolation in Christ's forgiveness and perfect obedience given freely; and faith goes forth in freedom from the condemnation of the law and freely gives because it knows it has been freely forgiven for Christ's sake.
So if one isn't obedient, it means he is lacking faith, either through unbelief or a misunderstanding of the Gospel.

No, if one is not obedient, they are also lacking something greater, which is love. We can only have anything else towards God to include proper trust if we love Him. We do not trust people we do not love or have a bound with.

This is so true, we can only trust to the degree in which we know a person loves us. To obey for any other reason is slavery. When I thought God was a slave driver I acted like a slave but when I realized God was my Father, my Papa, then I started acting like a son. I hope my kids do what I ask them because they trust me.
