  • Jesus dieing for our sins.

Did Jesus tell the Apostles the reason why he was going to die? Did he tell them at all that he was dieing for all mankind's sins?

If he did not tell them, then who in history was the first to work this out from the Bible teachings.

Matthew 16.21: From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

Matthew 26.26-29: Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

Jesus said he came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets. The Law and the Prophets told them that he was to die for sins of all mankind, but they didn't see it till after he was dead. Take the day of Atonement, for example.
Leviticus 16 5 From the Israelite community he is to take two male goats for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.
6 "Aaron is to offer the bull for his own sin offering to make atonement for himself and his household.
7 Then he is to take the two goats and present them before the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
8 He is to cast lots for the two goats—one lot for the LORD and the other for the scapegoat.
9 Aaron shall bring the goat whose lot falls to the LORD and sacrifice it for a sin offering.
10 But the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD to be used for making atonement by sending it into the desert as a scapegoat.

Now we see why God made this law, he had already decided to send Jesus to the world and wanted us to recognize his plan in the Law.
Christ became the goat that was sacrificed, he was sacrificed for our sins.
The scapegoat is Satan who was not sacrificed, but the blame of their sins were placed on this goat and he was banished to the wilderness.

Here Jesus fulfilled this part of the Law, just like He said He came to do. The diciples just couldn't see it till after it happened.

Isaiah 53 should have been sufficient for all the Jews to see their Messiah in His first advent. Jesus taught from the OT scriptures opening them and expounding what they said and astounding even the most learned scholars in the temple. Luke 4:16-21 based on Isaiah 61:1-2
