  • Please Help Is it safe to do an extended fast with one kidney?

    Hello everyone, in short:

I donated my kidney to my sister who had a rare kidney disease, and I really have been wanting to go on an extended fast greater than 10 days, but I'm concerned about whether or not there are any health issues. I don't think there should be, but you never know. I'm worried about going to a doctor because they will only discourage me from fasting due to their non-christian background.

My question is how has your extended fast affected you physically? Any problems? More importantly has anyone out there performed this with one kidney?

Before this goes any further I have to say this:

Any opinions expressed here should only be considered after you have had this discussion with a licensed physician or practical nurse. Christian background or not they are professionals and will take your faith into consideration if they are worth their salt. This is a very serious thing that could impact your health so all due consideration should be given. Remember, your body is a temple and proper care should be taken with it. Part of proper care is the knowledge of how to care for it.

Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck and God bless brother.

    To see thee more clearly
    Love thee more dearly
    Follow thee more nearly

Even if someone on this board was the most highly decorated kidney specialist in the world, without that hypothetical person examining you, doing blood work, checking your medical history, etc.... even that hypothetical person should not give you any medical advice as a stranger over the internet.

I'd say - seek out competent and real life medical counsel from your physician.

No, it's not safe. You never should fast if you are sick, or in poor or lowered health. Fasting is not required. She should eat full and complete healthy meals and pray instead of fasting IMO.

None of the new testament writers nor Jesus encouraged fasting anyways. Even Jesus' disciples did not practice it.
James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

          The whole flavor of the New Testament is one of the Lord only requiring a service when His servant is equipped. Mark was not up to the rigors of Paul's missionary journey and is left at home. I doubt that anyone with one leg would have been equipped for service with Paul either. So the questions are;
          • Are you medically and physically equipped for fasting?
          • Does the Lord require you to fast?

Only you can ultimately answer these questions. Remember one thing. At the end of Matthew Chapter 7 we have a number of Christians who did mighty works for the Lord in His name, only to be called "workers of iniquity". Your body is the Temple of God. Don't even think of willingly doing damage to it. 1 Corinthians 3:17; "If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." The word "defile" means "mar" or "waste" and the force of it is lost in English.

It is by faith that we do all things, be sure it is the Holy Spirit that is speaking to you in reference to this.
It takes love to embrace those ones who are weak, and strength to endure the weakness, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
