  • A Reminant

I am convinced that in every denomination there are followers of Christ. I have been one who believes in Spreading the Gospel to all. I understand there are fundimental beliefs between doctrine, so could you give me your opinion on the following?

For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and in part I believe it.~1 Corinthians 11:18
They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.~1 John 2:19
Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.~Romans 16:17
    1 Corinthians 1:10-13
Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment. For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe's people, that there are quarrels among you. Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, "I am of Paul," and "I of Apollos," and "I of Cephas," and "I of Christ." Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul ~1 Corinthians 1:10-13

Denomination=Division......That is not God's plan for His children.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.~John 14:6
" I am here to learn and I am not a teacher of the word. While I may challenge beliefs and ask pointed questions it is for me to understand completely your point of view so that I may challenge my own point of view in my search for truth"

We know for sure that Paul was not trying to compliment them.
Some people are offended that the Sovereign God, because He loved man so much and wanted to be in an intimate relationship with his creation, gave Man a free will to respond to God's grace, offered to all. They are offended that God is God as God chooses to be, not as they choose for God to be.

Thanks clormond. These scriptures are good to compare together. When someone is converted to Christ by the choice and action of God himself, they are suddenly in fellowship with him, with God. They are likely to take their lives and situations to God in prayer for he is now their father. Anyone else who is likewise in Christ will have a spirit that rejoices or recognizes the same spirit in other true believers. So all who are truly in Christ will be one in spirit and will not be divided in that sense. Nevertheless, the word brings division, because the gospel is either recieved or rejected by persons. Those in Christ, are those who receive the gospel. Those not in Christ are divided from those in Christ by their rejection of the gospel. Notice that in the scriptures you mention, it is those who depart from correct teaching (from the gospel) that have departed from the faith and this should not be interpreted as meaning those who leave a denomination are godless. Again, I say this should not be interpreted as if those who leave a denomination have departed from the faith. Often, it is the opposite. People leave or are rejected by those in denominations because the true gospel is not recieved in the denomination. Thoughout the church age, God has sent true believers to the congregations, but they have often been rejected (They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.)
Denominations are not a Christian or Bible-commanded thing at all. Here on the planet, there are only people Christ has saved and people that he has not. If a person is saved, they are a member of Christ's body. You could never say it is good to take Christ's leg and divide it from the rest of his body. Or his eye and do the same.

This subject has been a thorn in my side for 30 years which nauseates me. I just don't get all the division among us.

Jesus prayed in John 17:20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
