The offspring included children of faith in Christ's finished work on the cross, and this is not something Abraham had a clear understanding of, obviously.

He was obviously missing the full experience of the prophets, kings, and unfolding detailed story God's redemptive purpose played out through his children.....
You are right, Abraham didn't have a full understanding of how all the promises would play out.

Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ. Gal 3:16

Says the one who neglects salvation and is waiting for judgment hereafter.

“Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God." James 2

Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham." John 8:39
