You have no right to determine if you trust them or not. Neither you nor I are to have that kind of authority. The government doesn't have that authority either when it comes to speech (per the first amendment).

Yet Russia can't vote, BUT they can sure secretly back a US citizen for president. Doesn't that scare you? It does me.
No. Why would it? The voters have already decided they want a more socialist government anyway. (Now that IS scary.) That's why we have the current guy in office. If we went by the constitution, it wouldn't matter much WHO was in office. That's why we need to get back to it ASAP. One way to do that is to make sure those in office cannot limit speech by limiting campaigning.

      .
A man stands twenty feet from me, with a gun pointed at me.

Do I trust that he won't shoot me or do I draw my gun and duck for cover?

I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. John 13:15

Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Has nothing to do with the constitutional right of free speech. Nowhere does the constitution say "if the man is trustworthy, then he can speak without government limits. However, if he is not, then government can limit his speech."

A man with free speech can not tell a lie?

Bearing false witness never has been nor will be considered "free speech". However, political advertising was exactly what the framers had in mind when they put the 1st amendment in the constitution. That's why government's attempt to limit it (which by the way HIGHLY favors the person in office over the one challenging him/her), is unconstitutional. People have the freedom to advertise as much as they desire against government policy regardless of the cost. Eventually, the court will get that right too (I hope).
