  • Need help and clarification on confessing to others. Please help

I feel like Im really stuck in a hard place right now and instead of seeking secular advice Ive decided to seek advice from other Christians.
    Heres my Story.

Let me start out by saying that I have OCD and this could be me overreacting.

I Currently have an Air Conditioning business in Florida. I have one employee and the business has been up and running for 1 year now. In order to start a business in florida you have to be a certified contractor. In order to be a Certified contractor you are required to take the State Test and successfully pass and then submit a package with proof of experience. Well in 2007 I took the State Contractor test and successfully passed. Then in 2008 I submitted my application to the State of Florida to be come a Air Conditioning Contractor. Well in the application in the Past work experience section it states that they require you to have a minimum of 4 years of active working experience in the field and at least 1 year as a foreman( person in charge). Well with that being said I had plenty of working experience but no Foreman experience so basically I would be rendered ineligible to get the license or start my own business. Well What I did was state on the application that I had the foreman experience and had been in charge at various jobs with past air conditioner employers when in reality I was lying and was never in charge at all. So now around 4 years later and Im feeling guilty about this. You see, Im currently a firefighter paramedic and due to the stress of the Job( seeing dead people and sick people all the time, PTSD, stress , depression) I plan on quitting soon and working for my business full time. Well a few months ago all of a sudden I have been feeling really guilty about this and have been pondering calling the State Licensing Board and telling them what I did but Im afraid I will loose my License and then I will be stuck with out any options and be stuck working at the Fire Department when all I want to do is quit here.
So with all of that explained. I know God forgives us.. Thats what Jesus died for.. Now Im really confused as far as confessing our sins to others. here on earth. Well as far as the State of Florida licensing board I really don't want to confess to them. I personally don't care what they think but Ive really pondered the idea of telling them what I did to get the guilt out of my system but then Im afraid Ill loose my license and my business if I explain to them my situation. I mean do you think I should confess to them that? Or am I over thinking this??

So my question is. Do you think this guilt is of God or the devil? I know God says to confess your sins and also to confess your sins to others but do you really think this is necessary.. Can some one elaborate if Im reading in to the confessing to other part wrong.

All I want to do Is quit the fire dept. and run my business and move forward.

I don't know what to do

    Please help me..
    Thanks, Ben

    Welcome to the board!

I am sorry to hear that you are suffering PTSD and depression from your experiences as a fire fighter. It is a very brave and selfless job, which is taken for granted by many. I pray that the Lord may heal and restore you, that you may function fully in the future.

As for your question, can I ask you what brought this feeling of guilt? Did something happen, or have you recommitted yourself to God recently? Your right that satan can send us on guilt trips, but sometimes the Lord will bring something up from your past, and expect you to deal with it. I personally have been asked to repent of things I said or done, years after the event. Once or twice, I have been asked to declare my sin to the person I offended. On the other hand satan will taunt you about things that have been forgiven, and God no longer remembers. All I can say is that satan accuses, while God just reminds you, and nudges you to do the right thing. Pray and ask the Lord to lead you, or if you think it's from satan, tell him he's a liar!

    blessings to you

Thanks for the advice. Well I really dont know whats bringing on this feeling of guilt. I mean Ive been fine with it for awhile and I started feeling guilty about it over the past few months. I believe I started feeling guilty right when I was finally ready to quit the fire department. I really dont want to confess to the State Licensing Board but I also want to do the right thing. I really dont know what I should do

Lies usually catch up with us even if no one but us ever knows about it. And there is a difference between guilt and conviction. In your situation it sounds like your conscience is bothering you. You perhaps won't have peace of mind until you deal with the issue. What and whether you let them know that your application was not correct is surely up to you. As for the firefighting job..I am sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time reacting to what the work entails. I would think that kind of job isn't something everyone can do.

Mainly you have to prayerfully give this situation to God, act as your conscience directs, and trust Him for the outcome.

It may not work out as negatively as you conclude. In any event I pray you have much peace whatever you decide to do.

        prayers and blessings.

        is heard in our land

Ok. So this is my situation. Im quitting the fire department in 2 weeks and my business will be all I have. I lied about this years ago and Ive felt guilty about this recently. Once I quit the fire department all I will have is my business. What would you do?
Seriously? I mean we all have lied we all have sinned. I have lied and cheated with other things? I do have OCD. I wonder if Im obsessing about this. What would you do? I mean to call the licensing board and confess, is that exteme?

I am sorry that this is causing you so much anxiety. This could just stem from your PTSD and you can go forward as you please. It's just not easy for us to figure that out. We only have what you've written and cannot feel what you are feeling. That is why we would be wrong to just tell you to go for it and ignore this guilt/conviction.

You ask what would I do. I would spend a lot of time on my knees praying for the Lord's guidance. I would ask the Lord to give me peace about moving forward, if this guilt/conviction is not from Him. I would ask Him to clearly show me what I must do, in a way that is non emotional, ie while reading my bible,or through someone I know in the faith. i would ask Him to close every door that is not of Him, and acknowledge my desire to walk the path He has planned for me. After that I would move on, trusting that He will do as I have asked. I would continue to watch out for the Lord's leading, that I may follow His will.

            blessings to you

The psalmist said: “My sin I finally confessed to you, and my error I did not cover. And you yourself pardoned the error of my sins.” (Psalm 32:5) You can do the same. Pray to Jehovah. He knows what you have done, but humbly admit it to him in prayer. Ask for forgiveness, not holding back because you feel too wicked to be helped. Jesus died so that we could enjoy a good standing with God in spite of our imperfection. (1 John 2:1,2) You can also ask for the strength to make needed changes. Reading Psalm 51 may prove particularly helpful to you in making this approach to God.
