    BECOMING SIMEON

    Quietly I stand there
    Waiting to go on.
    I stay among the shadows
And reflect on what's gone on.

I've spent the time in practice,
And spent much time in prayer.
    I've done the preparation,
And sought the Lord's will here.

    I stand among the shadows
And await my que to go.
And as I stand there waiting
    A prayer to he'ven I throw.

"Oh Lord, it's up to you now.
I've done all I can do.
    I've done the preparation
And now it's up to you."

"Oh come, dear Lord, and take me.
I leave it up to you.
    Shine through your humble servant.
Oh let your love shine through."

"Oh help me step aside, dear Lord
And let your word shine through.
    I am a simple messenger
    The message Lord's from you."

    The light comes up
    And I step forth
And in that step I die
    And Simeon is born.

    My prayer is answered.
    The miracle has come.
    And Simeon comes forth again
To welcome the new born king.

So I Hold Up My Lamp

      Call me Lightkeeper
      For that is my office
      And my job.
      My job is not, primarily
To help those who seek the door,
The door to this vast and roomy house where God is
      To find the door
      And open it
      And enter in.
      Though I gladly do that
      When I can.
      No, that is anothers place
And I would not deny him the joy of his job.
Nor is my job the exploring of this house
It is not mine to find new caverns
      And new Depths
      And new heights
In this endless, and glorious house of God.
Though, at times, I do explore a little deeper
And occasionally I am blessed to find a new room
Or at least one that's new to me
      And maybe others.
No, mine is a different job.
      Let others take the glory
The Glory of finding new heights and depth of God
Or of helping many to enter in.
I have no need or want for it.
      It belongs to others
And I would not deny them.
No, my job is to stand here and shine my light.
Those whose job it is to help people enter
Often forget those who've they've helped open the door.
      I do not fault them.
It's not their job to guide the newcomers on the way.
They are busy helping others to enter
But I sometimes wish they would remember
Remember what it was like before they found their place.
So for these I hold my lamp
And try to point the way
So these, to can find where God wants them.

I hold my lamp also for those who seek to leave
      They are lost
      And scared
And seek the comfort of their familiar old life.
The shouts of joy and discovery that echo from those deeper in
      Only scare them more
      And they want out.
So, for these, too, I hold my lamp
To show them how much better it is inside
And to remind them that what seems familiar
      And comforting
      Is really only a trap.
So for these, too, I hold my lamp.
I hold my lamp, also, for those whose path has become hard.
They need a place to come
      And rest
      And be refreshed
      And know they're not alone.
      For these, too,
      I hold my lantern high.
And so I take my place
      At the crossroads
Where all who need can find me,
      And light my lantern
      And hold it high
For those in need to see.
"Let your light so shine before men . . ."
So I hold up my lamp.

        I BELIEVE

I believe in God the Father. The First Person of the Trinity. All powerful, all knowing and all loving. The creator of all there is, was, and ever shall be. Who's holiness cannot abide the presence of Sin. But who's love is far above anything we can understand. Who in that love made provision for us to have fellowship with Him.

I believe that humanity, in its natural state is totally sinful. That, as in the words of Paul, "in my flesh dwells no good thing.

I believe that humanity was created with a desire for fellowship with God and can never truly find rest outside of that fellowship. But that our sinful nature keeps us from that fellowship.

I believe that Christ was God in human form. That He was both totally God and totally human, being born of God and a virgin woman.

I believe that in Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity, God made a way to bridge the chasm that sin has made between God and fallen humanity.

I believe that in Christ, God came into the world and lived in human form, showing us His true nature.

I believe that Christ's suffering and death on the cross paid the price for our sin, allowing a way for fallen humanity and a perfect Holy God to have fellowship once again.

I believe that after His death on the cross, Christ was buried in a borrowed tomb and that he rose to life on the third day and showed himself in bodily form to numerous people. That among them were Peter and the 12, Mary and the women at the tomb and that men on the way to Emmaeus.

I believe that after His resurrection He ascended to heaven where He is our High Priest, interceding with the Father on our behalf. form there He will soon return to rule on earth.

I believe that before He ascended, Christ promised to send us another comforter. That comforter is the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity. Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three persons, one God.

I believe that the Holy Spirit came into the world to lead, Guide, comfort, teach, and empower the Church, Christ's body in this world.

I believe that the Holy Spirit is a person with all the attributes of personhood and not just some disembodied force. Among these attributes are the ability to be grieved and resisted, among others.

I believe that there is only one true Church scattered amongst the people on earth. That no one denomination has a monopoly on Gods Truth. That we are all called to be Gods people on this earth. To teach others gods ways and bring all to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

I believe that as Christ's body in this world we are called to make this place a better place in which to live. That while we are no longer of this world and that our true home is in heaven, we are, never-the-less, in this world and, as Christians, are bound to help where we can, in Christ name.

I believe that in our own strength it is absolutely impossible to live, love, and work as Christ would have us, but that through His strength, given freely ut us, we can "do all things through Christ who strengthens us." that only by living constantly in the strength of Christ can we hope to do what God has called us to do.

I believe that God has revealed Himself to us by giving us His word, The Bible. That God was at work throughout history preserving and protecting His word so that what we have today is still Gods Holy Word and is still "God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, So that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

        Here I stand.

Yes, these are original materials. I have written a number of poems. I have put them all in a book, which is not published. It currently sits at 114 pages (that isn't 114 poems, btw, as several of them are more than 1 page long)
