  • Re: He is our hope

    Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
    which you have stored up for those who fear you
    and worked for those who take refuge in you,
    in the sight of the children of mankind!
    In the cover of your presence you hide them
    from the plots of men;
    you store them in your shelter
    from the strife of tongues.
    Blessed be the LORD,
    for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me
    when I was in a besieged city.
    I had said in my alarm,
    “I am cut off from your sight.”
    But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy
    when I cried to you for help.
    Love the LORD, all you his saints!
    The LORD preserves the faithful
    but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.
    Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
    all you who wait for the LORD!
    (Psalm 31:19-24 ESV)
    Peace to you!

    It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

        Psalm 139:17-18a.

        How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
        How vast is the sum of them!
        Were I to count them,
        they would outnumber the grains of sand —
        "The flowers appear on the earth,
        the time of singing has come,
        and the voice of the turtledove
        is heard in our land
        ." SofS 2:12 (RSV)

          You have kept count of my tossings;
          put my tears in your bottle.
          Are they not in your book?
          Then my enemies will turn back
          in the day when I call.
          This I know, that God is for me.
          In God, whose word I praise,
          in the LORD, whose word I praise,
          in God I trust; I shall not be afraid
          .

          What can man do to me?
          (Psalm 56:8-11 ESV)
          Peace to you!

              I think we've all sooner or later felt we've had someone watching over us in times of need. Guardian Angels, the Lord, etc...
              I love this verse especially for that recollection when I've felt a presence with me.

              Psalm 91:11

                O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
                you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear
                to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,

                  Amen to this! The psalms are an excellent aid to praise, especially if you cannot find the right words at a certain moment.

                    Psalm 28:6-9

                    Blessed be the Lord!
                    For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
                    The Lord is my strength and my shield;
                    in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
                    my heart exults,
                    and with my song I give thanks to him.

                    The Lord is the strength of his people;
                    he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
                    Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
                    Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

                      I really love the psalms. I confess that there have been times in my life when my cup of suffering has seemed to be filled almost to overflowing. I find it hard to relate to anyone at all. When I am in such a state I always seem to find the Lord in the psalms. I can relate to David's trails(I am not saying I am on his level) and his statements "How LONG Oh God!" I can relate to his doing what is right and being wrongly judged for it(although many times I AM wrong) I can relate to his long drawn out time of testing and preparation. To me the book is an inside view of God's dealing with his people. We see a man that was anointed and yet for years walked in rejection,shame and false accusation. We then see God pulling him though and blessing him greatly. David always seemed to have his "but" in the right place. He would describe his pain and suffering and then would say BUT the LORD is my strength and the lifter of my head. He would describe the prosperity of the wicked and then say BUT the LORD will conform me to his image. I often get my "buts" mixed up. I sometimes say God is GOOD (but I am going through such and such) . Thank God that we have such a detailed record of his dealing process and that he explains why we sometimes go through such adversity. It should be an encouragement to us all.
                      Mal 3:16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.
